Nashville, TN Police Chief Steve Anderson issued a Christmas message thanking the city's police officers and defending his decision not to crack down on police brutality protesters. In the letter to Metro Police, he extolled the virtues of officer discretion with regard to minor violations and compared his protest response to the 5 in 6 times Nashville officers gave warnings instead of tickets during over 400,000 traffic stops in 2013.

With a disgraceful son.

Athough there was a speed trap right out on Briley Parkway this afternoon, so I guess the "minor infractions" mean something besides speeding.

Aye, I am glad to hear it, but isn't TN where they let the DHS and the TSA do checkstops? :shudder:

Not that NC doesn't have our own share of really bad crap, but that one really sticks with me.

2013, so what of 2014?

Breaking that down we find they issued 66,667 tickets for the year or 183 per day--and pulled 1,096 traffic stops each day. Not really certain that is something to be bragging about.

Well the chief of police has nothing to do with that. He can't overrule the governor. That said, nationwide attention brought to this story by Infowars.com and others caused then governor Bredesen (democrat) to back off a little.

But RINO republican Bill Haslam has brought VIPR back with a vengeance.

This republican governor is also pushing Obamacare in Tennessee. The previous republican governor, Don Sunquist, pushed for a state income tax.

I didn't know you were in Nashville. Yes Briley Parkway is notorious for speed traps. And I saw a motorcycle cop doing a speed trap on Metro center yesterday, so yes there still is revenue collection going on. On the flip side I did get a couple of warnings this past year for minor traffic violations. Here is a good app for spotting speed traps. https://www.waze.com/

That does happen in TN, but oddly enough, as I have reported on the locations which are made public each time, they are almost never in Davidson Co. I think they are mainly placed in rural counties because putting a full-blown checkpoint in Nashville on a Friday night could essentially shut the city down if it were in the wrong spot and would probably invite too many complaints.

All my adult life. Husband is a native.

With all the tourists around, I don't think traffic law enforcement is a bad thing. It's practically the only way we know the Titans are in town. What they do over there is anyone's guess. Football would not be my first thought.

Aye, I am glad to hear it, but isn't TN where they let the DHS and the TSA do checkstops? Most of the time they are not in Nashville / Davidson County.... the police explain in their Citizens Police Academy that those stops are really ineffective, problematic, and that they have better things to do with their time.

Nashville PD do seem to be better than most... their traffic division runs way too much radar, but other than that they seem to have their heads on pretty straight.

Yes, Tobismom was real active in 2008, the two of yall probably met.

Yes Briley Parkway is notorious for speed traps.
The Nashville Citizens Police Academy (which is largely a community outreach / PR course) explained that Briley is poorly designed and as such is very dangerous, which is why they patrol it as much as they do.... but this is what happens when the government builds the roads :(
