View Full Version : Rand Paul says Marco Rubio is acting like an isolationist re: Cuba

Senator Marco Rubio believes the embargo against Cuba has been ineffective, yet he wants to continue perpetuating failed policies. After 50 years of conflict, why not try a new approach? The United States trades and engages with other communist nations, such as China and Vietnam. Why not Cuba? I am a proponent of peace through commerce, and I believe engaging Cuba can lead to positive change.

Seems to me, Senator Rubio is acting like an isolationist who wants to retreat to our borders and perhaps build a moat. I reject this isolationism. Finally, let's be clear that Senator Rubio does not speak for the majority of Cuban-Americans. A recent poll demonstrates that a large majority of Cuban-Americans actually support normalizing relations between our countries.

Huge win.. Bet it felt great to play the isolationism card for once instead of everyone trying to pull it on you.. Well done, Rand.

I'm pretty sure there is already a shark infested moat between the US and cuba.

Can someone take upload an actual screen shot from Drudge as Jpg or something?
Please? I will give you rep. I don't know how to do that, I just pasted it in a weird way.

Rand is trolling so hard right now, calling NeoCons "isolationists" :D

I wonder if this is his way of avenging his father

If I remember correctly, Ron said the same thing in 2012, that the ones who don't want to talk to anyone or trade with a country, are the isolationists.

Rand knows how to defend himself. He makes great points and adds a touch of humor in order to show everyone how ridiculous his opponents' positions are, without sounding whiny or angry.

Article from the Miami Herald:

As they jockey for possible presidential bids, Republican senators Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are taking aim at each other on TV, Twitter and Facebook over Cuba policy.

Rubio, a Cuba hardliner from West Miami, has attacked President Obama’s effort to reestablish ties with Cuba. The pugnacious Kentuckian thinks the president made the right move.

“He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Rubio promptly said Thursday of Paul during a TV interview.

“Senator @marcorubio is acting like an isolationist who wants to retreat to our borders and perhaps build a moat,” Paul fired back Friday on Twitter “I reject this isolationism.”

Hell yes... you know that is part of it. Anybody that loves his own father would do the same.

Fuckers can burn a slow death in hell for what they did to Ron Paul. Every g**damn one of 'em.

Rubio is doing nothing but parroting the hard-line, bash-Obama bullshit that his handlers think will put him out front. The conviction of his positions runs about a quarter-inch deep - if that!

Rand Resonates with Righteousness - on damn near everything he talks about.

The apple don't fall far from the tree.

Like his supporting bombing ISIS, or his support for some government sanctions on drugs, or when he said Chris Kyle was a hero, or his support for keeping Guantanamo open, keeping some foreign basis, and so forth (there are probably more.)

Mind you, I agree with the spirit of what you were saying. And, I guess you could argue that's still "damn near" if you want. But, I wouldn't say that. I'd be more inclined to say "more often than not." Of course, that's not as rhetorically charged, but its more accurate;)

Fair enough ;)

Like someone said in another thread, Rand has got some GREAT coaches. More and more I think Doug Wead is in the booth.

I get the feeling they have all the issues on a big whiteboard, mapped out with the BIG, no compromise issues at the top, and the inconsequential "sure, we'll give in on this one" issues on the bottom.

There's no way to be ideologically pure (like his Dad) and win a national election. That we've learned from experience.
