This is from June 2014 but I didn't see it in the search and thought it was interesting.

....

According to Prof David Price, a cultural anthropologist at St Martin's University in Washington DC and author of Weaponizing Anthropology: Social Science in Service of the Militarized State, "when you looked at the individual bits of many of these projects they sort of looked like normal social science, textual analysis, historical research, and so on, but when you added these bits up they all shared themes of legibility with all the distortions of over-simplification. Minerva is farming out the piece-work of empire in ways that can allow individuals to disassociate their individual contributions from the larger project."

Prof Price has previously exposed how the Pentagon's Human Terrain Systems (HTS) programme - designed to embed social scientists in military field operations - routinely conducted training scenarios set in regions "within the United States."

Citing a summary critique of the programme sent to HTS directors by a former employee, Price reported that the HTS training scenarios "adapted COIN [counterinsurgency] for Afghanistan/Iraq" to domestic situations "in the USA where the local population was seen from the military perspective as threatening the established balance of power and influence, and challenging law and order."

One war-game, said Price, involved environmental activists protesting pollution from a coal-fired plant near Missouri, some of whom were members of the well-known environmental NGO Sierra Club. Participants were tasked to "identify those who were 'problem-solvers' and those who were 'problem-causers,' and the rest of the population whom would be the target of the information operations to move their Center of Gravity toward that set of viewpoints and values which was the 'desired end-state' of the military's strategy."

Such war-games are consistent with a raft of Pentagon planning documents which suggest that National Security Agency (NSA) mass surveillance is partially motivated to prepare for the destabilising impact of coming environmental, energy and economic shocks.

James Petras, Bartle Professor of Sociology at Binghamton University in New York, concurs with Price's concerns. Minerva-funded social scientists tied to Pentagon counterinsurgency operations are involved in the "study of emotions in stoking or quelling ideologically driven movements," he said, including how "to counteract grassroots movements."

Minerva is a prime example of the deeply narrow-minded and self-defeating nature of military ideology. Worse still, the unwillingness of DoD officials to answer the most basic questions is symptomatic of a simple fact – in their unswerving mission to defend an increasingly unpopular global system serving the interests of a tiny minority, security agencies have no qualms about painting the rest of us as potential terrorists.

They just made it LEGAL for the NSA to spy on everything we do, they SHOULD be expecting this soon.

In ten years, the US military can't beat a couple ten thousand Afghani peasants with AKs, but they're gonna beat millions of pissed off armed Americans stripped of their assets to benefit the TBTF bankstas?! I don't think so.

No, but they could make it quite bloody to maintain a free state.

Well I don't seem to really have a good handle on how civil the breakdown might be.

Yeah I was gonna say, if they are expecting massive unrest, they have nobody to blame but themselves for constantly trying to piss ppl off on purpose.

They want martial law.

1) Prod the herd
2) See who steps forward to dissent
3) Terminate dissenters

Step 3 serves two purposes, not only does it physically remove dissent from the herd, it encourages future dissenters to keep quiet.
We are all sheep. We can either be fleeced or slaughtered.

Perhaps this is the goal.

If you think on it a bit, it is a win-win for Themme no matter how it plays. If people stand, say they've had enough, and act, Theye move assets against them in whatever manner they deem necessary to remove the threat. This includes mass slaughter, IMO - a last resort, but one that remains on the table, just in case. If people tolerate it, then Theye have successfully augmented the envelope of power and are free to move on to the next step. Theye cannot lose in this situation. If Theye back down, I can but imagine that it would be so for very positive strategic reasons, rather than as the retreat that it would appear.

The only avenue of real loss for Themme is so narrow and so far off the map as to be nearly unworthy of consideration: the entire nation comes together as one, armed and willing to place onto spikes as many of Theire heads as must be so put in order to save themselves from falling into the Pit. When one takes a step back and considers the greater makeup of the American population, it becomes rapidly clear just how hopeless that possibility really is. We live in a nation that put Obama into office twice. Need anything more be said?

Theye are poking and prodding, which serves three purposes. Firstly, it is exploratory: what will the meek tolerate? Secondly, it is expansive: we grow our power in those places where the meek will tolerate it. Thirdly, it further conditions the meek to the brands of invasion that the poking and prodding represent. As the meek become ever more calloused to trespass, it becomes familiar. As it becomes familiar, it becomes comfortable. Before you know it, the meek come to expect and then to demand their chains be ever tightened, strengthened, shortened. Couple that with the drive toward states of perpetual childhood in the mental lives of the meek and those poor seely bastards look to their slavers as saviors, parents, even lovers without whom the meek are lost.

Theye will never stop. Why should they? Why should Theye treasure and respect the freedom of the meek when the meek show no respect or love for their own birthright? Theye are doing exactly what they should be doing: despising those who despise themselves; trammeling those who would be trammeled; forcing into the mold of the slave all who are devoid of the least respect for the sacred gift of life that was given them; holding as chattel all who consent as chattel.

Theye are not the problem, but rather the meek are, for it is but by their own hands that they have been enslaved, for they have consented to it in sufficient chorus that the Whipmaster was able to attain his position over them in the first place. These are matters of bravery, the meek being cowards. These are matters of self-respect, the meek being self-haters. These are matters of the most basic smarts, the meek choosing ignorance instead. These are matters of respect for one's birthright of freedom, the meek rejecting it wholly in favor of being cared for by third parties on the promises of something for nothing. These are matters that, once evolved beyond a threshold, are solved only through the destructive retaking of one's property, using any and all means at one's disposal for so doing.

The meek are the evil that contaminate the earth, not the masters. The masters are only doing what their proclivities demand of them. I would go so far as to say that Theye may not even be able to help it, just as a homosexual man cannot help but desire the flavor of another man on his tongue. Do we blame snakes for biting? No rational man does, for he knows "bite" is part and parcel with "snake". Those who would be masters are driven by their very fabric to rule over other men. This what they do. This is what they are. The meek, because they are the ones upon whom trespass and violation are foisted, are presented with a choice to resist or capitulate to invasion. Thus far, they have capitulated and therefore have consented to allow their rights to be circumscribed and in some cases thwarted completely. The meek have choices, contrary to what some might say. We always have choices, unpleasant as they may prove at times.

The meek fail to fight that which preys upon them. They fail for any of a number of reasons, all of which are rotten.

What man possessed of the least courage respects the coward? What man of balanced disposition respects the morbid greed of the blindly grasping? What man of learning respects those who choose with single-minded iron will to remain ignorant and who wear their darkness as badges of honor? What man of industry respects those who would remain idle, yet demand indolence be rewarded with the products of his fellows' labors?

In all cases: none. No man worth the cardboard match with which one would set him ablaze respects the meek because they merit no respect. That is why the masters rob the meek of everything, including their own souls: the meek have no guts; no integrity; no courage; no will to use their brains. Only the Superior Man holds Themme at bay, his ability now slipping fast with every new advance in technology the masters take into their hands. The meek not only tolerate the masters, they love and worship Themme and are in many ways Theire greatest allies.

Were it not for the fact that the masters posed a danger to the Superior Man, I would have little trouble with what they do. But alas, the masters are also fools - perfect mirror-image reflections of the meek, and as such merit the self-same damnation. What incredible fops they are! Rather than take into the fold of their power those of superior fabric, Theye childishly see them as nothing more than threats to Theire position, to be lumped in a single pile with the rest. That is the QED demonstration of what nits Theye are - what popinjays, with their pretenses of position and power when in fact they are just a raft of trash no different from the meek over whom they presume their superiority. But at the end of the day, the only thing that differentiates the meek from the master is the latter's avarice-driven will to act positively in pursuit of his objectives, whereas the meek act almost solely through the stillness of default. Each is equal in the rotten tone of his character with the other, and the anoteros anthropos* is stuck between them like the icing in an Oreo cookie.

On the one hand we have the meek; rotten to the core with corruption of every form. On the other, their evil twins whose only quality worthy of credit and respect is the fact that they move in pursuit of their interests. In the middle, the Superior Man - bane to master and meek alike for the former see him as a threat and the latter as one of a different sort who would make unreasonable demands such as the expectation of using one's brain as more than a hat rack. Both hate him equally for his moral character, which is perhaps the greatest threat and sin of them all, in their eyes. This pits the Superior Man against the vast and overwhelming majority of the world. That almost guarantees he will lose, and what a shame it is. The true flower of mankind to be erased away in favor of the scum and slime whose only future is to poison this world unto its destruction.

* Greek, literally "superior man".

You presume too much.

The majority of Americans are rotten to the core. Their fault? Maybe, maybe not. But rotten in any event. Theye control resources vital to the daily lives of people who cannot wipe their own butts without help, much less accomplish anything of greater significance.

If Theye are smart, and at this point I am no longer sure they are, patience will win the day as the economic reality alters such that the meaners become ever more dependent upon Theire deign and the rest are simply squeezed harder and hard, yet are denied any clear pretext for open rebellion.

Imagine ammo becomes very difficult to find. In time, what remains stands to be consumed. Without ammo, guns lose their appeal. Coming to this end is nothing of difficult for Themme. The main requirement is patience, and it appears Theye are now running noticeably short of that commodity. But most of the rest of America is running similarly short of precious resources and this whole deal may end up proving to be one of the grandest games of chicken ever. Who will flinch first? I cannot say, but I hope it is Themme because the meek are managed with relative ease.

Time will tell.

I guess I'd better go on record and say the last thing I would endorse, or even want, is a civil war. I have had enough war to last 10 lifetimes, and I don't even live with it like so many others on this planet (brought to them by the USG).
