CHICAGO (CBS) – Police in Lake Station, Indiana, shot and killed an elderly man Tuesday morning, after he walked up to the municipal building, and fired a shotgun in the air.
Police said three Lake Station officers confronted the man around 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Lake Station City Hall, which also houses the Lake Station Police Department.
The man, believed to be in his mid-80s, then fired his shotgun into the air. He then stepped towards the officers, and all three officers fired and killed him.
If police know what his intentions were, they were not saying as of early Tuesday afternoon.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force was investigating.
