The man was taken to a nearby hospital and his condition was not immediately available. Police initially reported two people were shot. This is the 14th officer-involved shooting involving Oklahoma City police in 2014.

About 8:30 p.m., two police officers tried to initiate a traffic stop near NE 28 and Laird Avenue, but the vehicle continued to drive at a slow rate of speed, police Capt. Paco Balderrama said.

Officers followed the vehicle until it crashed at the north gate of the Heritage Pointe apartment complex near NE 26 and Kelley Avenue. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran south into the apartment complex, Balderrama said.

Officers ran after the driver and said they saw him brandish a firearm. The officers fired their weapons and shot the man, Balderrama said.

People at the scene said the man was shot in the back and in the head, but Balderrama said he did not know where the man was hit.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, and detectives are investigating the shooting. People at the scene said the man was shot in the back and in the head, but Balderrama said where the man was hit and details of the shooting are still being investigated.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the police at 297-1126.

No names were released Sunday night.

Been following this one, as it happened quite close to where I live. Not much is known about the incident beyond what is reported here. It was just reported that the guy died, so now all we have is the word of the cops as to what happened. Hopefully this will increase the size of next Saturday's protest at the Capitol.

Do they even need to state this horrid shit anymore? Paid vacation for killing someone, whether murder or not, while an investigation drags on for months only to not do jack. Most of the proletariat has to bring doctors notes to keep their shit jobs when they are out sick, much less get paid for it. Disgusted as always and I will never get numb to reading it.

I heard our local talk radio host give props to RPF the other day and it reminded me of all the good exposure all these abuses get on here. A good thing.

However, people who claim to have witnessed the shooting tell a very different story.

“When he was caught, he put his hands up,” said Tyrell Bagby.

“He had his hands up,” said Courtnei Thomas. “They shot him in the back.”

“He had his hands up and he turned to run and they shot him in the back,” said Derrick Parker.

“They shot him in the back of the leg twice and in the back of the head,” said Nowlin.

Authorities with the Oklahoma City Police Department say the witnesses’ version of events does not follow what happened that night.

“As the officers were chasing him on foot, he did produce a weapon and pointed it at officers and that’s why they discharged their weapons at him,” said Capt. Paco Balderrama, with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

A gun and drugs were recovered at the scene.

Still, those who live at the apartment complex say police had no right to end his life.

“They had no reason to shoot him. They shot him just to shoot him,” said Thomas.

“That officer was tired and that’s why they shot him. If you can’t catch him, shoot him,” said Parker.

“True enough, he ran but he didn’t deserve this because he didn’t pose a threat. His back was turned and he was running away,” said Nowlin.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid leave while the case is investigated.

NewsChannel 4 tried to confirm with the police department exactly where the suspect was shot.

They told us they’re waiting on the medical examiner’s report to get those answers.

The ME’s office would only report that the suspect died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Interesting that the cops' story has changed. Apparently the earlier reports said that the "drugs" were recovered from the vehicle. And of course they can always produce video in court when it's a drunk driving case, but they claim no video exists for this event. I suspect that things are going to heat up pretty quickly here in OKC.

edit: And of course, if you click through to the article, you will see the usual attempt to vilify the victim and paint him as a dangerous thug. Even if the guy was some sort of thug, at the very least he still deserved to have his chance at a fair trial.

I'm sure those "eyewitnesses" were ghetto rats, and who could believe what they have to say ?

Good shoot ... enjoy the paid vacay, officers ...
