Instead of investigating the officers for their disgusting actions, police are investigating how the video got released.

Mamou, LA — A disturbing video was leaked to the press Monday from a holding cell surveillance camera showing 2 police officers essentially torturing inmates.

The anonymous person who released the video, did so with the following statement.

To whom it may concern:
You will find Police Chief candidate Robert McGee continually tasing multiple inmates in cells at the Mamou Police Department. There is also footage of deceased officer, Joe Deshotel, tasing an inmate in a cell. These files came from the video surveillance at the MPD.
signed -a disgusted and concerned citizen.

I don't know if any of you guys have been locked up for one of the state's many victimless crimes... but that's pretty much how I remember things in the county blocks. Any free chance to mace, tazer, bludgeon... they're on it. Its a sadistic game to them:

Fuck with the monkeys; just to make them dance. Then curse, spit, laugh and slam the cell shut.

'Murica that's why.

I'm confused?!? Did you expect otherwise?

wow

However, the videos show the officers walk up to the cell, open the door and taser non-violent inmates, one of which was even sitting peacefully on his bed! It looks like multiple deliberate and sadistic acts of aggression; aggression that the police chief candidate will never face consequences for, not for the obvious reason of the thin blue line, but because these incidents are outside of the statute of limitations.

Current Chief of Police, Greg Dupuis said he was made aware of the video over the weekend. Dupuis said an investigator contacted him, and he promptly contacted the district attorney. “He advised me that according to the dates, the statue of limitations has run out and we couldn’t file charges. One of the people in the video is deceased and hasn’t worked for me in over three years. The other, hasn’t worked for me in over one year,” Dupuis said via a phone interview.

Dupuis said that he is conducting an investigation, not about the sadistic torturous actions of the officers in the video, but how the video was released.

The current police chief is a convicted felon.

I've never heard of police chiefs being elected -- he resigned as police chief in 1997, then the voters elected him again in 2004 :

Mamou Police Chief is a Convicted Felon

Is a convicted felon allowed to hold public office?

snip

On the official form Dupuis filled out when he ran for office in 2004 you can see he checked number nine, swearing with his signature that he was not prohibited from qualifying as a candidate for conviction of a felony.

But back in 1997 Dupuis was convicted of malfeasance in office in Evangeline Parish while serving as chief of police.

The man who brought up these complaints, George Fisher, says Coreil referred him to the attorney general and Board of Ethics.

Greg Dupuis was elected as Mamou Cheif of Police in 1995.

In 1997 he resigned from his office after he was convicted of malfeasance in office.

Dupuis then ran again in 2004 and won the election.
