Or might not. http://www.ibtimes.com/eric-garner-grand-jury-indictment-decision-new-york-braces-possible-riots-1732873

STATEN ISLAND, New York -- There's one simple reason why Staten Island barber Angel Sanchez said his community won't riot like Ferguson after a grand jury decided not to indict the white police officer who killed a black man here this summer: Tompkinsville residents are just more accustomed to police brutality.

"Ninety, say, 80 percent, nothing's going to happen," he told International Business Times Wednesday before the grand jury decision was announced. "It ain't something new. Out there, you got small towns, communities, so they're not used to stuff like that. We're used to it."

It was mostly business as usual for Sanchez on Wednesday, who spoke to IBTimes as he cut his brother's hair half a block down from 202 Bay Street, where Officer Daniel Pantaleo put a fatal chokehold on 43-year-old Eric Garner in July. But his eyes kept focusing on the TV tuned to NY1 in the corner, waiting for the grand jury to announce whether Pantaleo would face criminal charges.

Media reports indictated late Wednesday that the grand jury would not bring charges against Pantaleo, but officials would not comment on the result. Protesters are scheduled to gather throughout the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn once an official announcement is made.

Comparisons between Ferguson, Missouri, and Tompkinsville, New York, are inevitable, but the latter was quiet on Wednesday, even at the site where Pantaleo put Garner in the NYPD-forbidden chokehold for allegedly illegally selling cigarettes. More news trucks, photographers and reporters stood along Bay Street than residents. Freezing drizzle kept people inside, where they leaned on deli counters and made conversation, but there were no signs of protests similar to those that unfolded across New York City after Garner's death this summer.

If Pantaleo doesn't face prosecution, Sanchez said, people will be upset. But he doesn't anticipate violent outcry. "We'll have our rallies, people will express their feelings, of course," he said. "But we ain't going to start breaking storefronts and robbing TVs and stuff like that."

That's because police in Staten Island have always used racial profiling and excessive force in dealing with residents, Sanchez said. Once, when he was wrongfully arrested, the cop clicked the handcuffs to the tightest link, pinching his skin so tight it cut off circulation. It's unfortunate "somebody had to die for it to come to light," he said.

The mayor is aggitating. If he wanted to do something to the officer, he could. He's the mayor. Too bad he is in the pockets of unions and cronies. From what I heard on the radio on the way home from work, there is no way this was a racially biased decision because at least a third of jurors were black. They did not convince anyone there was enough evidence to indict. I'm not a cop hater, and even I had trouble with the video. I don't know how that shook out in deliberation.

I guess we'll see. Staten Island is still partly a wreck from the storms a couple of years ago. It's a logistical nightmare to get stuff in and out. Can't imagine how they will ferry rioters over there.

If they don't riot, they're not paying attention...

NYPD cop who choked Eric Garner wasn’t indicted — but man who recorded the incident was

While a Staten Island grand jury decided on Wednesday not to indict the New York City police officer involved in the death of Eric Garner, prosecutors were able to secure an indictment against the man who filmed the fatal encounter.

As the Staten Island Advance reported, 22-year-old Ramsey Orta was indicted this past August, 13 days after being arrested and charged with charged with felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession and criminal firearm possession.

Authorities argued that Orta stuffed an unloaded gun inside 17-year-old Alba Lekaj’s waistband outside a hotel. But Orta has said that the charges against him were trumped up as retaliation for filming Garner being grabbed from behind by Officer Daniel Pantaleo. The city’s medical examiner determined that Garner’s death was a “homicide by chokehold.”

“When they searched me, they didn’t find nothing on me,” Orta said to the Advance regarding his arrest. “And the same cop that searched me, he told me clearly himself, that karma’s a b*tch, what goes around comes around,” Orta said, adding later, “I had nothing to do with this. I would be stupid to walk around with a gun after me being in the spotlight.”

Orta had two other cases against him pending at the time of his indictment, including charges of robbery and hitting a man who was collecting bottles outside his home.

Just before Orta’s indictment, his wife, 30-year-old Chrissie Ortiz, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly attacking another woman. Ortiz had also called the charges against him “total B.S.”

“It’s obvious what they’re doing: they’re trying to shut him up,” Ortiz said at the time of her husband’s indictment. “They’re trying to keep him away. They’re trying to find anything to crucify him. They’re bringing up his past, when they should be bringing up the officer’s past, who committed this murder.”

This is Staten Island, they would have a hard time finding windows that weren't already broken. The cops will just shoot the first 1 or 2 people who try to raise up, then everyone will go home.

Easiest thing in the world. You can get in via Goethal's Bridge, the Outerbridge Crossing, the Bayonne Bridge, the Verazano Bridge, and the Staten Island ferry. Trust me, there is plenty of arterial capacity to get people in and out.

I would add that this potential event illustrates precisely why NYC does not want their subjects free to carry firearms.

Events this large do not spontaneously generate out of thin air. Someone, somewhere was strategizing and came up with a tactical plan because the execution here seems a little too clean. The question, then, is who is behind this planning and who is behind them?

Mr. Sanchez seems to think that looting is related to outrage. Actually looting is an opportunistic, self-serving activity that has nothing to do with protest other than, perhaps, some comforting mental cover for thieves that might otherwise feel guilty. If he thinks there are not PLENTY of opportunistic thieves and thugs on Staten Island, he is a fool. They did it in LA and they can do it in New York.
