The US Justice Department will announce Wednesday that it is opening a civil rights investigation into the death of Eric Garner, who was killed by a chokehold at the hands of police.

US Attorney General Eric Holder is expected to make the announcement Wednesday evening, the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2014/12/03/a-grand-jury-vote-in-new-york-police-involved-chokehold-case-could-come-soon/?hpid=z1) reported, in the wake of a grand jury decision not to indict the police officer responsible for placing Garner in a chokehold. The investigation will consider whether or not police violated Garner's civil rights.

In order to bring charges against New York Police Department Officer Daniel Pantaleo, the Justice Department will need enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Garner's rights were violated, and that Pantaleo did so "willfully."

Platitude, nothing more.

^^^ This. It wasn't a civil rights issue. It was, at least, a manslaughter issue. But to assuage the masses the Fedcoats will get involved. And when everything is quited down nothing will come of it.
How's that Fed civil rights probe of the Miriam Carey murder going?

wait a minute, this could be a landmark case: this could decide whether or not breathing is actually a "civil right"

I love the constant propaganda "We need to reach out and build trust between law enforcement and their communities". In other words : We need to implement the knights to whip the field slaves (metaphorically speaking).

The field slaves keep calling the police though. It's hard to feel sorry for them. Complain about the police but then you call them 5 minutes later for a noisy neighbor down the hall.

Which civil rights are we talking about here?

God given right not to be killed by the Police?

Fifth Amendment?

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

Eighth Amendment?

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.[
