White Cops Sue ‘Racist’ City For Lost Wages After They Shot Unarmed African Americans 137 Times
It sounds too insane to be true, perhaps like an April Fools Day joke, or something from The Onion’s epic satire pieces. But as strange as it sounds, a group of Cleveland, Ohio cops are actually suing the city, claiming that they are being punished too harshly for shooting unarmed African Americans.
The suit stems from a 2012 shooting in Cleveland when officers fired 137 bullets at two African Americans who had fled police. Neither suspect was armed.
When it comes to officer-involved shootings of African Americans, the plaintiffs are arguing in the new federal suit, that they are treated in a discriminatory manner.
The plaintiffs complain that after killing the two unarmed citizens, they were placed on administrative leave for three days before reporting “to the gym”. This was part of a 45-day “cooling off period.” This, they say, caused them to miss out on certain wage opportunities, resulting in diminished wages for the killer cops.
It was months before they returned to regular duty, and even when that happened, they were shortly thereafter placed on restrictive duty. Remember, they fired 137 rounds into a vehicle killing two unarmed citizens. They were not arrested, nor prosecuted for their crimes. The nine plaintiffs are claiming they were treated too harshly because they are Caucasian.
“The City of Cleveland, through the other named defendants, and the other named defendants in their individual capacities, have a history of treating non-African American officers involved in the shootings of African Americans substantially harsher than African American officers,” the lawsuit reads.
The suit was filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and further claims that, “A serious dichotomy exists as a result of the defendants’ longstanding practices and procedures which place onerous burdens on non-African American officers, including the plaintiffs, because of their race and the race of persons who are the subjects of the legitimate use of deadly force.”
You really just can’t make things this insane up.
All of this comes on the heels of rookie cop Timothy Loehmann shooting and killing 12-year-old Tamir Rice for the non-crime of having a BB-gun.
