I'm sorry but everything I see going on around me traces back to 9/11, and the new War on Terror we got after the old Cold War fell apart, and didn't justify the fascist state any more.

Fascist state you say? We live in a fascist state? Yes, when the military can take you away in the middle of the night without charges or trial, as it can under NDAA (http://www.salon.com/2013/12/27/obama_signs_ndaa_2014_indefinite_detention_remains/), when the election is stolen (http://archive.lewrockwell.com/orig13/glenn-j1.1.1.html) by party shenanigans from an outstanding Constitutional candidate like Ron Paul, when dissident journalists like Michael Hastings (http://nymag.com/news/features/michael-hastings-2013-11/) can be murdered before our eyes and the public herded into believing that cars explode on their own, yea, I'd call that a fascist state.

What would you call it?

And through it all I keep thinking about the movie It's a Wonderful Life. Jimmy Stewart sees his town become mean-spirited and cold, the very opposite of the town he knew and loved. At what point did it go wrong? When did it all change? The answer to these questions is, of course, the object lesson to the movie.

As one old enough to remember 9/11, I remember when police did not wear battle gear at every call of "man with a gun." When their job was to talk that man down. Not to kill him.

It was 9/11. The slow transformation of American society into the police state culture that we see today, began then, with The War on Terror seeping into every dealing that authority had with the public. The by now normal militarized response of law enforcement to every situation, the meaness of police, who have entire Youtube channels devoted to instances of brutality and complete renunciation of the role of a public servant rather than a plantation overseer. When the happy Midwestern town started turning into the mean, drunken Potterville.

It all started then. On 9/11.

I think Ferguson has more to do with the failed Great Society programs & propagation of the illegal drug industry as opposed to 911. Black incarceration rates were lower than the general pop before the 1960s. When you are literally paying to breed ignorant people with no family structure, this is the culmination.

Interesting, there is no doubt that the welfare state meant to rob the black community of its family structure and pride. But what Occupy Wall Street showed is the treatment by police of blacks now extends to white people too.

It really took off in the 1970's but the black incarceration rate has always been higher than the white one. Poverty is also a factor.

I think the growth of the police state was a natural reaction to the these failed policies. Eventually, the chickens are going to come home to roost. There needs to be a contingency plan in place when the ponzi economy inevitably fails.
