Republicans claimed all four seats in House District 14, which represents Atkinson and Plaistow.

Plaistow resident and incumbent Republican Rep. Norman Major carried his hometown.

He received 3,658 votes in total.

Major, 80, will be serving his sixth term in the N.H. House.

Some voters thanked him while they were handing in ballots in Plaistow. Major was manning the ballot box Tuesday afternoon.

“He really has the district at heart,” Plaistow voter Randi Connolley said outside the polls.

Close behind were Republican incumbents Bill Friel, 53 with 3,174 votes, and Debra DeSimone, 60, with 3,653 votes.

Both Friel and DeSimone are from Atkinson.

Republican newcomer Shem Kellogg, 32, of Plaistow, also secured a seat with 3,089 votes.

Rep. Jack Hayes, R-Atkisnon, did not seek re-election.

Four Atkinson Democrats were on the ballot.

Democrats’ vote totals were: Harlan Cheney with 1,484 votes, Peter McVay with 1,427, Kay Galloway with 2,131 votes and Jean Sanders with 796 votes.

“If one of us got in, it’d be a big deal,” Sanders said.
