View Full Version : Anchor tears up Paris Hilton story - Liberty/RP "related"

MusoSpuso
06-27-2007, 11:01 AM
Mika Brzezinski, a news caster for MSNBC tore up a "leading" news story about Paris Hilton on Live television.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004316/

The above isn't a direct link but if you bring up their video pop up window it should be at the top of "Most Viewed". No doubt the video will be buried very soon.

Why do I post this? I don't know...it just seemed to strike something in me. People are getting sick of the decay in this country. The morale, economic and political decay. We're sick of being spoon fed lies and flashy non-sense. Misdirection for the truth occurring under our noses. I say kudos to this woman. I don't know anything else about her...she could be a neo-con for all I konw. But this gesture, which could very well cost her career, is a powerful one and is one I think related to what Ron Paul talks about when he talks about his admiration of Ghandi and MLK etc. and their use of non-violent protest. Now, I of course don't mean to necessarily equate her personally (as recent news stories attempted to do with Ron Paul and the NH tax standoff situation) but I do want to point out that we need to start taking back this country--violence or not. The revolution wasn't won by sticking flowers in the Red Coats' wigs. No one's going to do it for us. I personally am sick to death. If it comes to a fight, I'll be on the front line. Give me liberty or give me death! Amen!

***end rant***

No you need to actually pull up a video (any video) and then go to most watched on the side bar.

I know longer watch the news on TV except for rare occasions, but I can see one positive thing about MSM covering such fluff like Paris Hilton. It could be drawing the younger generation to actually watch the news and then provide exposure to other more pressing issues (while waiting for the fluff).

A silver lining to what seems disgusting perhaps.

That's Zbigniew Brzezinski's daughter.

They're all in bed together - the power politicians, the media, and the corporate powerful. Their goal: control the people.

Makes me SICK.

I was also wondering if this was planned and set up.

It's still downloading so I haven't gotten to watch it yet...but I'd venture a guess that it was planned and she simply performed as instructed.

I hope I'm wrong...

Ya, now that you say so I suppose it could have been faked. She appeared to be shaking when she tried to burn the thing, but the guys certainly had all their techniques of ridiculing her and paris at the same time down.

if she gets fired we can be pretty sure.

Mika.Brzezinski@msnbc.com hasn't bounced on me.

I've watched it three times and viewed it for a co-worker. It does not appear to be fake or setup. The facial emotions and the awkward camera switches, particularly to switch away from Brzezinski, just don't lend itself to be a fake--unless it's a very well thought out and executed fake...and they're all incredible actors as well. It's possible, but I wouldn't agree without some solid proof.

She took the lighter from the pocket of the guy next to her. People do carry lighters from time to time particularly smokers

It's a news room/office--paper shredders are pretty common. I have one in my office as a matter of fact.

Again, I don't dismiss the possibility but I'm just don't think so IMO

This looked real to me. And its about damn time.

It was just too awkward to have been staged. Do you honestly believe that the producers WANT their anchors to go off script and say that the story they've been obsessing over for weeks now is meaningless and that we should focus on the weakening support for war story instead?

Integrity in journalism is sorely lacking. I hope that a station finds you whose producers will respect it. Might have to go to Internet T.V. That's where I get my news. Somebody turned me on to a video of what you did on YouTube.

Maybe she was just trying to show her dad up, because he said she was mousey. Ya never know! Here I am dad, on national TV not being mousey. So there, you mean snake! Stick it where the sun don't shine. It would have been better had she said "My dad's an evil son-of-a-bitch, don't let him fool you." :D

I kinda think this is what happened, because it really didn't looked staged. The shaking because she was actually standing up to old Zieg, who no doubt is the authoritarian type. Regardless, maybe she started a trend for reporters.

Mika,

A clip of your refusal to do the Paris Hilton story as a lead has become one of the most talked about events of the day on the blogosphere.

I want to thank you for your courage... but at the same time i fear...
remember 1984? The orwellian brand of journalism that we now have... what did they do to the one who rebelled?

I hope you fair better, you are in the hearts of many americans... and personally, you have become a hero in my book.

I think we should encourage this kind of behavior. A show of support for this one reporter might give other reporters the courage to do the same. They can't fire all the reporters.
Plus, an added bonus. She gets a taste of the power of the internet. She becomes a well known reporter over night.. suddenly she understands the 'Ron Paul Phenom'.

I don't think anyone else has mentioned this. If you look at the times in the lower right corner, the three incidences all occurred an hour apart. I guess whoever posted it just edited them together. I tend to believe that the simplest answer is usually the right one, and it doesn't seem to me that it's a fake. I think she just got really pissed that her producer refused to stop making them lead with a meaningless story when something with the importance of a Republican moving away from the war needed to be mentioned.

Ok, apparently there was a bit of build up before she got down to ripping and shredding.

She had refused to read the Hilton story at the top of the hour.

Then later, when reading the story about Lugar, she interjected with a qeustion of her own that wasn't in the script :

"Whatever happened to the Iraq Study Group, because I believe President Bush asked for those pieces of advice, correct?" she asked.

Scarbrough jumped all over her for "editorializing", and there was some back and forth over it.

It was then that the editor again gave her the Hilton story to read, pretty much just to shut her up.

That's when she got feisty and ripped it up.
