Challenger Bob Goodrich largely self-funded as Rep. Justin Amash outperforms opponent

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Just about $1,000 separates incumbent U.S. Rep. Justin Amash and challenger Bob Goodrich in the third quarter donation race.

But it's Amash, R-Cascade Township, who's winning over grassroots supporters compared to his Democratic challenger. The congressman raised about $139,634 from about mid-July through the end of September, with no money coming from his own pockets, according to a recent campaign finance report from the Federal Election Commission.

Goodrich raised some $138,609 during the same period, though $125,000 was donated to the campaign by the candidate himself, records show.

Goodrich, owner of the theater chain bearing his name, insists he's running an effective campaign and is comfortable given the contributions received so far. A total of 19 individual contributions, other than his own, were reported in this latest tally, compared to Amash's 231 donations.

The report includes contributions given in the two weeks prior to the August primary election.
