GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Just about $1,000 separates incumbent U.S. Rep. Justin Amash and challenger Bob Goodrich in the third quarter donation race.

But it's Amash, R-Cascade Township, who's winning over grassroots supporters compared to his Democratic challenger.

The congressman raised about $139,634 from about mid-July through the end of September, with no money coming from his own pockets, according to a recent campaign finance report from the Federal Election Commission (http://www.fec.gov).

Goodrich raised some $138,609 during the same period,

though $125,000 was donated to the campaign by the candidate himself, records show.

A total of 19 individual contributions, other than his own, were reported in this latest tally, compared to Amash's 231 donations.

About $476,097 remains in Amash's war chest, compared to Goodrich's $10,266.
