Bartlett, TN (WMC) - Two people died after a Sunday afternoon crash that involved a Bartlett police officer.

Danny Floyd, 63, was killed when a Bartlett officer driving a police cruiser crashed into his car. Floyd was turning south onto Bartlett Boulevard from Stage Road.

Michelle D. Sloyan, 49, who was riding with Floyd, also died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The officer who crashed into the vehicle was not responding to a call.

A witness says the officer turned off his blue lights right before speeding through the intersection. This information left both families with a lot of questions.

Nephew AC Husted says Floyd was a logger with a big, close-knit family.

"It just hit me like a hammer," Husted said. "He's a good man, he's always smiling, he's always joking. He's always doing something for the family."

Police chief Barry Rikard, who declined an on-camera interview, says his prayers and concerns are with the family. The officer's name hasn't been released as of Monday, but Rikard says they've had no problems in his six years on the force.

The impact of the crash uprooted half of a bush. Markings can still be seen dragged out into the road. The chief also says he's getting conflicting reports if the officer had his blue lights on, and the truth will come out when they retrieve the dash cam video.

The officer is on sick leave with minor injuries.

"I don't want it to be a slap on the wrist, just don't do that again,"Husted said. "That doesn't bring back my uncle."

Depending on the findings, Rikard may turn the case over to Tennessee Highway Patrol or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Surely this criminal will be promptly arrested and charged with manslaughter, reckless driving, failure to maintain control of vehicle, speeding, etc.
