‘I’m on a call': Officer ignores mom whose children had just been kidnapped

DALLAS, Texas (PIX11) – A Dallas police officer was fired after dash-cam footage caught him ignoring a woman whose children were being kidnapped at gunpoint.

Footage shows Senior Cpl. Les Richardson, 61, smoking a cigarette in a patrol car and driving by a woman who was trying to flag him down Aug. 25, Dallas News reported.

“That’s him, that’s him, right there,” the woman shouted to Richardson.

Instead of responding to the woman, Richardson reported to a burglary call. He also told the woman before driving away “Right here what, baby? I’m on a call.”

The woman was referring to her ex, Steven Douglas, 29. Douglas had just rammed his pickup truck into her car and removed her two children from the vehicle at gunpoint, the website reported.

Douglas eventually led police on a car chase and threatened an officer with a gun. He was fatally shot by the same officer.

Richardson, who worked with the department for 28 years, was initially placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the woman’s allegations.

He was terminated Wednesday – the same day video footage was released.

Richardson, 61, had volunteered to cover officers at a burglary-in-progress call on the morning of Aug. 25. While en route, police said dispatchers announced that there had been shots fired and a suspect had rammed a woman’s car in the area where Richardson was driving.

He then drove by a woman who was shouting at him that “That’s him, that’s him, right there.”

He was clearly very busy, and probably stressed out by the danger he was about to put himself into.

Fortunately he has "the right to appeal their discipline under civil service rules."

Richardson’s attorney, Tom Pappas, said the investigation is still early, but is confident that his client will be cleared.

“He hasn’t done anything wrong,” he said.

Here's hoping!!!

At least he kept himself safe.

The woman and the kidnapped child did it to themselves.

Ya, there must be something else at play here. It's very unlike the PD to fire someone for such a petty reason.
