MANAMA, Bahrain (NNS) -- U.S. forces in the North Arabian Gulf concluded a search and rescue operation for a missing U.S. Marine Corps aircrew member today at 3:00 p.m. (GMT), after efforts to locate him were unsuccessful. The Marine is presumed lost at sea.

On a story about a marine bailing out of an airplane and being lost at sea...

Good Lord. Yankee Papa, HMM163 was our sister squadron. Freaky.

I never flew in Ospreys, so my experience could be different, but in the CH-46 Sea Knight (Phrogs) you don't bail AT ALL. Ever. You stand a better chance autorotating than falling.

And even assuming the Osprey is different, I still highly doubt they bailed, they probably weren't wearing harnesses and got flung out when the Osprey started gyrating. You wouldn't generally bail unless the Pilot says "bail!" because (especially over the water) you don't really know how high up you are. And BOTH crew went?

Nah, I don't think they bailed, I think they were flung out when the aircraft lost power.

Guess the surviving man will have to share how they "exited" the plane.
