Baghdad will fall, probably within a week. how does this effect the mid terms? and more importantly Iowa and NH (only 15 months away) ?

"There are no ISIS soldiers in Baghdad."

It'll give more ammo to the warhawks that intervention is needed and that Obama has failed. Rand's rhetoric might get a boost since he's been pushing the narrative for a while that this is all a consequence of our actions over there and that now we need real action from a real leader.

one thing Rand should do is re-introduce Ron's old bill abolishing selective service, and draft registration. if they invade ISIS they will need 500 thousand troops, and 50,000 dead could easily happen with street by street fighting

there is a bill in the House:

I don't think that would be necessary. Don't get me wrong, I want it abolished completely myself as it's a nice first step to getting rid of some of these chains that bind us, but it'd be hard to drum up support for that when many people still believe there won't be any "boots on the ground" and also don't think the draft will be used. It would be more symbolic than anything else.

I don't buy for a minute that Baghdad is going to "fall". Let's not forget that Sadr's Mahdi Army was never defeated, they responded to the 2007 surge by dissolving. If a bunch of Sunnis roll into town looking to take over, Sadr will weapon-up his people and completely destroy them.

Baghdad isn't going to fall.

IS only got as far as it did because Sunnis rolled over and let them.

You really think Shiites like al-Sadr will roll over to IS? Hell no, they will never let them take Baghdad. Look at how effective the Mahdi army was against well trained and equipped US forces, then think about them, now backed by the US ironically against IS.

I Guess Secretary Kerry just said Bagdad could have fallen, if it weren't for his and Obama's recent airstrikes. It's funny, even the stupid lame news people are smart enough to doubt and question this ludicrous statement.

And that's where they've BEEN for a long time. If they ever tried to take over Baghdad (i.e. the "Baghdad will fall" that started this thread) Sadr and the Mahdi Army would eviscerate them.
