CNN page not found. But according to Open Secrets the top donor to the Obama campaign was the University of California, though they note:
https://www.opensecrets.org/pres12/contrib.php?id=N00009638

This table lists the top donors to this candidate in the 2012 election cycle. The organizations themselves did not donate , rather the money came from the organizations' PACs, their individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

(Open Secrets also noted that most of the top donors to the Ron Paul campaign were reported as military- again, members of the military making donations and listing the military as their employer- not the branches of the military themselves).

Found info on the CNN article. It was from 2010 and on the 2008 campaign. Things were different the next time around:

Goldman Turns Tables on Obama Campaign

When Barack Obama ran for president in 2008, no major U.S. corporation did more to finance his campaign than Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

This election, none has done more to help defeat him.

Prompted by what they call regulatory attacks on their business and personal attacks on their character, executives and employees of Goldman Sachs have largely abandoned Mr. Obama and are now the top sources of money to presidential candidate Mitt Romney and the Republican Party

In the four decades since Congress created the campaign-finance system, no company's employees have switched sides so abruptly, moving from top supporters of one camp to the top of its rival, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of campaign-finance data compiled by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Employees at Goldman donated more than $1 million to Mr. Obama when he first ran for president. This election, they have given the president's campaign $136,000—less than Mr. Obama has collected from employees of the State Department. The employees have contributed nothing to the leading Democratic super PAC supporting his re-election.

It may be hard to get the public excited about that. That article was very hard to read, filled with mind-numbing and petty detail. Maybe that is intentional...

The bottom line I took from it was that the New York Fed is in bed with the big Wall St banksters, and that their role as "regulator" is a farce.

"Regulatory capture" seems to be the descriptive name for this situation.

Here's a relevant section from the article:

"Nothing was off limits," says Beim. "I was told I could ask anyone any question. There were no restrictions."

In the end, his 27-page report laid bare a culture ruled by groupthink, where managers used consensus decision-making and layers of vetting to water down findings. Examiners feared to speak up lest they make a mistake or contradict higher-ups. Excessive secrecy stymied action and empowered gatekeepers, who used their authority to protect the banks they supervised.

"Our review of lessons learned from the crisis reveals a culture that is too risk-averse to respond quickly and flexibly to new challenges," the report stated. "A number of people believe that supervisors paid excessive deference to banks, and as a result they were less aggressive in finding issues or in following up on them in a forceful way."

One New York Fed employee, a supervisor, described his experience in terms of "regulatory capture," the phrase commonly used to describe a situation where banks co-opt regulators. Beim included the remark in a footnote. "Within three weeks on the job, I saw the capture set in," the manager stated.

Confronted with the quotation, senior officers at the Fed asked the professor to remove it from the report, according to Beim. "They didn't give an argument," Beim said in an interview. "They were embarrassed." He refused to change it.

One thing that never comes out of this is an examination of the entire concept of a "regulatory agency". It always fails. It is always a charade. It's a bunch of useless busy work. It always puts power into the wrong hands, and that power is either captured by the entity supposedly being regulated, or in the hands of arbitrary, vindictive regulators.

Do away with regulation and these regulatory agencies. Replace them with actual laws that make it criminal to lie, cheat and steal (including various forms of fraud). When a crime is detected via an actual victim, then a criminal investigation can occur. No more useless charades.

So sick of this rigged/racketeering shit... You name the player, I'll point out the fraud and theft. Like douche bag Timothy "Goldman Boy" Geithner. Let's not forget the whistleblowers at the SEC that were fired for exposing the SEC policy not to pursue or prosecute the Big Houses/Gamblers, just go after the low and a few mid level "Lone Wolf" for PR appeasement. Media swept that under the carpet very quickly too.

I'll leave this imagery here... remeber, they don't call them "Government Sachs" for nothing.

Anyone else find it amusing that they dump critical news on Friday afternoon?Buried by Monday... look for some other fabricated crisis to get the clueless masses to gawk their attention upon. Boehner strted banging his drums about Iran all of a sudden. Libya? Egypt? Well, in Egypt, the dumbass population thinks they have a democracy... little do they know their boy Al-Sisi was a Mi6-CIA crafted operation from the beginning. It's all rigged today... don't let anyone fool you.

Last time we covered the Goldman Sachs extortion/fraud/racketing/influence/corruption deal with New York City... they received $1/2 billion in free rent, discounted utilities, and buidlings to stay. Maybe the people should unite and do the same thing... how about we all threaten to leave a city unless receiving pay us to stay? lol!

Sad but true. I remember during the 2012 primaries a "journalist" out in Nevada or Arizona accused a person of antisemitism for calling Romney "the Goldman Sachs candidate". I wouldn't know what search terms to google to find that article but it happened.
