The Future of Campaign Finance Reform May Rest With Silicon Valley
The debate in Congress this week was a sideshow to a longer, well-funded fight.

When Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak endorsed MaydayPAC, a crowd-funded group sponsoring candidates who oppose the influence of money in politics, he narrated a video explaining campaign finance reform in a way that loyal "Woz" fans could truly understand.

"I like to think of democracy as America's operating system," Wozniak begins. "Right now, because of how money has completely taken over our political system, America's operating system is very broken. Obviously if the operating system doesn't work, nothing else does, and some really bad stuff can happen."

He goes on to argue that all the "bad things com[ing] out of Washington, D.C. lately"—specifically citing SOPA, PIPA, net neutrality, patent-reform failure, privacy concerns, and other major technology-policy debates—are the direct result of big donors' undue influence on policy.
