This came up in another current mideast intervention drive discussion but deserves its own thread on media role and foreign policy.

On a different historic note, some past WaPo Editorials citations.

WASHINGTON -- In the months leading up to the Iraq War, The Washington Post ran 27 editorials in favor of invasion (http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/btw/transcript1.html), according to a count by veteran PBS journalist Bill Moyers. This week, around the 10-year anniversary of the war, it has yet to print any editorials or columns on the subject.

NIXON: “Newsweek” is totally — it's all run by Jews and dominated by them in their editorial pages. The “New York Times, the “Washington Post”, totally Jewish too.

GRAHAM: And they're the ones putting out the pornographic stuff. But this stranglehold has got to be broken or this country is going to go down the drain.

NIXON: Do you believe that?

GRAHAM: Yes, sir.

NIXON: I can't ever say it, but I believe it.

GRAHAM: But if you get elected a second time, we might be able to do something.

90% of the information you hear, read, and see from U.S. media, is controlled by 6 companies. The same corporations that receive huge tax write offs and crony welfare corporatism. NAB is another huge lobbyist group that partners with government on the information games and tax breaks. We witness everyday how media manipulates the public, how they censor information, how they provide misinformation by presenting only the portions of information they or government want you to be informed about. This whole "Left-Right" media game is just as much Kabuki Theater as the WWE politicians in Washington playing out their acts in front of the same media. WaPo, Washington Times, AOL, CBS, POLITICO, Capital Cities, CNN, NEWSCORP, you name it... they're all well crafted in taking the ignorant public into what government demands; invasions, wars, monetary policies, anything. The ratings game...

THIS IS WHY...

Tiny change :

Washington Post owner Jeffrey P. Bezos is replacing Publisher Katharine Weymouth with Frederick J. Ryan Jr., a former Reagan administration official who was part of the founding leadership team of Politico, a primarily digital news organization that competes with The Post on political coverage, the company announced Tuesday.

The departure of Weymouth, 48, ends eight decades of Graham family leadership of The Post, which her great-grandfather bought in 1933. Bezos, who acquired The Post for $250  million in a sale announced in August 2013, initially kept the senior leadership team intact. He told Weymouth during a visit to Washington, on Aug. 18, that he had selected a new publisher, according to people familiar with the decision. She will remain on the company payroll as an adviser through the end of the year.

US/UK have already spent Trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives & limbs for cause of freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan and some are now expecting to handle trauma and mental health of local populations too. Why WaPo is now suddenly caring about civilians of foreign wars while remaining relatively quiet in recent years?

The West is indifferent to Afghanistan and Iraq's world of terror: Washington Post analysis
June 4, 2017

In the United States, a great deal of attention has been paid to the effect of more than a decade of war on the mental health of American servicemen and women - and rightly so. But in Iraq and Afghanistan, whole societies have been traumatized. Millions of children grow up amid bombings, displacement and political collapse. Public health workers and aid agencies are still trying to measure the immense psychological toll they may have suffered.
So it's worth considering the depth of courage ordinary Afghans and Iraqis must show in the face of daily threats and violence.
"There had been many other bombings, some even deadlier. But this time, it felt like the collective burden of a society at war had suddenly become much heavier," Constable wrote after the attack Wednesday. It's a weight that can't be easy to carry.
"People have an anxious feeling now, like a psychological illness. I feel suspicious if I see someone carrying something," said Gul Rahim, 42, a real estate agent whose office lost all its windows in the blast, speaking to The Washington Post. "I was in the jihad [against the Soviet Union], and there were a lot of bombs and rockets. This was much worse."

A Kentucky high school student says he has settled a $250 million lawsuit with the Washington Post on his 18th birthday after he sued them claiming they made him out to be a racist following his stand-off with a Native American protester.
Nicholas Sandmann, a student at Covington Catholic High School, tweeted that the news outlet had settled the defamation lawsuit on Friday, which also happens to be his birthday.
Sandmann filed lawsuits against the Post, CNN and NBC after claiming the outlets vilified him following his stand-off with Nathan Phillips, an American Indian activist, at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in January 2019.
'On 2/19/19, I filed $250M defamation lawsuit against Washington Post. Today, I turned 18 & WaPo settled my lawsuit,' Sandmann said.

He went on to thank his attorneys and those who supported him in filing the lawsuit.
'Thanks to @toddmcMurtry & @LLinWood for their advocacy. Thanks to my family & millions of you who have stood your ground by supporting me. I still have more to do,' he said.
Sandmann did not reveal what the settlement was.
He settled a lawsuit with CNN in January for an undisclosed amount.
Sandmann and his family were seeking combined damages of more than $525 million against the outlets.
The teen claimed the outlets had falsely conveyed to viewers and readers that he was 'the face of an unruly mob' facing off against Phillips during protests at the memorial while he was in Washington DC on a field trip.

Although such a precedent could pave a slippery slope and open the door for millions of Iraqi civilian kids suing them to oblivion if same fakenews deep neocons run it. Depending on how many refugee children from Iraq, Syria were allowed during and post Obama era.
