Now Congress (THE HOUSE AND SENATE) is planning on a procedure that President Obama favors to get this Trade Treaty passed called Fast Track or Trade Promotion Authority. What this means is that instead of the usual 67 votes to pass an International Trade Treaty this treaty would only require 51 votes in the Senate to pass this Trade Treaty and it would require that the senate give up it's right to Filibuster and change this bad international Trade Treaty called the Trans Pacific Partnership.

We are aware of the TPP and the threat it poses. Unfortunately for most people, the consequences will result in sites like RPF being shut down and become nothing more than a fading memory. Very few people would react to RPF being shut down by the language in the TPP if they noticed at all. Shut down Facebook however, and there would be riots in the streets within hours.

Thank you martt5. I would add to your reminder of this terrible, so called, "Trade" deal that much of the sanction speak that we hear today is a product of those who would endorse this. This is essentially legalizing the corporate infringement of sovereign nations abroad. A fair example of the issues that may arise as a result of this brand of foreign policy would be what we see in the Ukraine at the moment. And these corporations, although they enjoy the gift of American citizenship and all of the rights contained, they have no allegiance to any nation.

I wouldn't say that the op is offering a new rendition of the so called "Trade" deal. There is a lot to it. And so we cannot just say that because we have a thread on it some place that the thread contains complete relevance. It seldom does and is why awareness of the thing becomes so fragmented. And subsequently any activism relative to it.

I kind of fault the mods for letting some of the more critical threads that pertain to the so called "Trade" deal that we have here (and there are many) become fragmented and buried but, unfortunately, it is beyond control. And you can't really blame our people because it just goes back to what I was saying about fragmented awareness or selective concern for it. Or selective concern for what they have read of it...again, usually in a fragmented way. Really, a search isn't even practical for use as a tool or mechanism to become informed with regard to developments and current events that are a product of this thing or the setting up of the infrastructure to make it the norm because most of the threads where relevance is discussed in it's most critical way don't even contain the term "TPP" or "Trans Pacific blah, blah, blah..."

One update that most people seem to not be aware of is that an even worse version of CIPSA is already in the works, called CISA, so basically the same thing, but none of the safeguards.
