Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Fighting ISIS in Iraq
Monday, 04 August 2014 17:15
Written by Warren Mass

There are several ironies apparent in the current battle raging in Iraq. Among them is that the United States, after repeatedly condemning Iran for years because of the nation’s nuclear fuel enrichment program that much of the West alleges is part of a nuclear weapons program, now finds itself on the same side as Iran in the fight against the ISIS militants. A report from Iraqi News back on January 19 quoted a White House statement that Vice President Joe Biden had phoned Premier al-Maliki, during which “Biden and Maliki discussed the U.S. support for Iraq in its battle against the ISIL terrorists.”

Another irony is that the ISIS militants are allied with the rebel coalition fighting against the Assad regime in Syria — a coalition that has received U.S. support. President Obama expressed hope in a news conference to “mobilize the international community to support” installing a new regime in Syria.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who was obviously aware of the connection between the anti-Assad rebels and the al-Qaeda-linked ISIS, made a statement on May 21, 2013, directed at his colleagues, nearly all of whom voted to send arms to Syrian rebels: “This is an important moment. You will be funding, today, the allies of al-Qaeda.”

About the only thing that is certain about U.S. policy in the Middle East, particularly with regard to Iraq, is that is has been consistently inconsistent, and has rarely served U.S. interests.

Thanks for article.

Not another penny should be spent on what the media calls a "moderate" rebel in Syria

When the US either goes broke or suffers a mass casualty retaliation that makes 9/11 look like a playground fight.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Iran and Israel became big allies because of this, and that somehow led to peace in the middle east. Heres something to hope for.

This very thought crossed my mind and I could only hope for such an outcome.

Yeah, but there's not as much MIC profit in that. There MUST be conflict abound in as many places as possible for the vast majority of the military and vast swaths of government/cronies to justify their own existence. (then there's the international bankers and other war profiteers...)

Ironic not in the way you'd imagine. You see, Israel is on the same side as ISIS and the rebels, they both want Assad and Malaki gone and Iran on the other hand sees that the forces pushing for these men's ouster are terrorists and are fighting them. So it would be ironic if Iran who is seen as the biggest state sponsor of terrorism is the one fighting them while Israel who is seen as a beacon of everything non terrorism and non Jihadist is the one cheer leading and supporting the terrorist jihadists in the middle east.

Would that cause folks to say, "peace and safety"?

I think the only time a country should get involved in a conflict is A) The country is attacked by another country B) A neighboring country that shares a border is getting destabilized and it might spill over C) An ally request help and that they are in deep trouble.

IMO, Iran has slightly more rights than USA to go and get involved in Iraq.

Basically, this is the end of Iraq as a sovereign state. ISIS will take the north and combine it with their part of Syria, Iran will take the Shia areas of southern Iraq. Not that I care, I only say this to point out how pathetic our foreign policy is. We spent many years and lost many lives and wasted a lot of money to create an allied state, but our very actions led to it ceasing to exist.

Israel has treated ISIS in its hospitals & provided some air support. Sorry, but To believe that Iran & Israel will come together on this is brainless.

Don't tell me you really buy that line. That the US objective was to create an ally by bombing the fuck out of it? Really...
Meh, Ironic it may seem but tragic is all it is.

Yeah, I believe that's what Bush and other US leaders were thinking.
