View Full Version : Is Justin Amash’s establishment opponent trying to get Democrats to vote in a GOP primary?

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) has been called anything from “al-Qaeda’s best friend” to “not a serious member of Congress” by his Republican opposition leading up to next week’s primary election fight for the seat of Michigan’s 3rd congressional district.

Now, some are wondering if Amash’s opponent Brian Ellis is trying to pull a Thad Cochran.

The blog West Michigan Politics reports that last minute mailers have been sent to Michigan citizens who identify as Democrats urging them to vote in the Republican primary Tuesday to get Amash kicked out of Congress.

The report notes, “WMP spoke to multiple individuals who do not typically receive Republican mail-they identify as Democrats and got these flyers.”

Ellis claims in the flyer that he’s the right alternative because he’s “reasonable,” unlike Amash. Below is a copy of that flyer.

Thad Cochran, you might recall, was in a tight race with tea party challenger Chris McDaniel for Mississippi’s senate seat, so tight in fact that it went to a run-off. Just before the run-off, Cochran secretly made the rounds to Democrats statewide, encouraging them to cross over into the Republican primary and vote for him.

Cochran claimed that McDaniel was a racist and warned that McDaniel wanted to cut entitlements and education spending, among other things.

The Amash-Ellis race isn’t nearly as tight, however, with most polls showing Amash has 20-plus point lead.

The Amash campaign has accused Ellis of acting out of desperation in the past.

This is a bit worrisome. Polls don't capture Democratic crossover votes, Ellis has been raking in a lot of lobbyist cash in the last couple weeks, and there isn't a competitive Democratic primary for Senate or the Congressional seat.

Amash simply needs to expose Ellis for the typical corporate welfare Republican that he is. Democrats hate big business corporate type Republicans.

How is Ellis going to reduce my health care costs if I can't get my checkups from the sexual felon doctors anymore?
