BILL SUMMARY

The Senate Amendment to H.J.Res. 76 appropriates $225 million in supplemental emergency funding for the remainder of FY2014, to provide additional funding to Israel for the Iron Dome missile defense system to counter short-range rocket threats. Any funds that remain unobligated at the end of FY2014 will remain available until September 30, 2015.

It passed the Senate by unanimous consent. For those wondering, Rand was in Kentucky when this passed today.

It passed the House 395-8.

Of course, you anti-semite. Israel is such a poor country that they can't pay for their own defenses. Thank you for your continued cooperation with sucking you dry.

Sincerely,
AIPAC

Take pride in knowing that even though we can't agree how to spend your hard earned tax dollars at home, all of congress(basically) agrees that giving Israel money is more important/

Wish I know who originated this line, but I'll repeat it here:

If Israel ever joined the Union, they would have 2 US Senators like very other state. But this current arrangement works out perfectly for them as they can remain an independent, sovereign state and have 98.

As I said the night of the Joe Biden-Paul Ryan "debate," the main difference between the major parties on foreign policy is, the Democrats' heads are buried half way up Israel's posterior, while the Republicans' heads are all the way up Israeli's posterior.

Do you have text of the bill, Tsai?

I am seeing conflicting reports regarding this.

I can't find the text but here's the legislative digest by the House GOP:

What are the conflicting reports about this bill?

This thread. They were both top of the subforums too. Your's saying Congress approves it, his stating that the Senate blocked it. What am I missing?

For what it's worth, you being incredibly knowledgeable on everything related to Congressional politics, and the fact that a bill to increase aid to Israel always is passed, I am going to go out on a limb and say you would be correct and Enhanced, wrong.

I can't find the text either.

The Senate blocking it happened yesterday. Senator Coburn objected to unanimous consent yesterday because he wanted to offset the cost. One day later, he's ok with no offset and didn't object.

Ahh. Thank you for the information.

One of those pointless theatrical measures to make him appear to care about deficits?

Sanford being on the right side of this particular bill is encouraging, though. Jones, Massie, and Amash have been doing great.

Do you have text of the bill

Here's the text:

Strike all after the first word, and insert:

the following sum is appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2014, and for other purposes, namely:

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE

PROCUREMENT

Procurement, Defense-wide

For an additional amount for `Procurement, Defense-Wide', $225,000,000, to remain available until September 30, 2015, which shall be for the Secretary of Defense to provide to the Government of Israel for the procurement of the Iron Dome defense system to counter short-range rocket threats: Provided, That such funds shall be transferred immediately only through an exchange of letters to address emergent operations in support of Operation Protective Edge, notwithstanding section 3.1.3.2.1 of the U.S.-Israel Iron Dome Procurement Agreement: Provided further, That nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to apply to previously appropriated funds for the procurement of Iron Dome: Provided further, That such amount is designated by the Congress as an emergency requirement pursuant to section 251(b)(2)(A)(i) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985.

This joint resolution may be cited as the `Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Resolution, 2014'.

Amend the title so as to read: `A bill making an emergency supplemental appropriation for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2014, to provide funding to Israel for the Iron Dome defense system to counter short-range rocket threats.'.

Rand says he supported this bill:

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Monday denied that he once supported ending federal aid to Israel — an idea he proposed as recently as 2011.

“I haven’t really proposed that in the past,” Paul told Yahoo News when asked if he still thought the U.S. should phase out aid to Israel, which has been battling Hamas in Gaza for weeks. “We’ve never had a legislative proposal to do that. You can mistake my position, but then I’ll answer the question. That has not been a position — a legislative position — we have introduced to phase out or get rid of Israel’s aid. That’s the answer to that question. Israel has always been a strong ally of ours and I appreciate that. I voted just this week to give money — more money — to the Iron Dome, so don’t mischaracterize my position on Israel.”
