U.S. Rep Steve King, R-Iowa, will bring special guest U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., to the vacation hot spot of Okoboji for an Aug. 4 fundraiser.

King's latest campaign report came out Tuesday, and it showed he's ramped up fundraising in the last 90 days. Prior to that, he had trailed his Iowa 4th congressional district Democratic opponent Jim Mowrer in each of the prior three fundraising quarterly periods dating to mid-2013

Would you like to visit with Congressman Steve King and Senator Rand Paul? Then please join our King for Congress fundraiser on August 4th at 6:30pm!

RSVP NOW by contacting Stephanie by email at strategy.resources@gmail.com, or call 319-230-6867.

We look forward to seeing you there!

I would add that Steve King is one of the most vocal republicans opposed to immigration reform in congress. Rand getting on his good side now could help to reduce any unfavorable words King may have for Rand in the future.

I know nothing about Steve King.

But when I first looked at this thread I misread it as Peter King and nearly had a stroke.

Steve King is also affable unlike Peter King.

He's probably more conservative than most of the other congressional members in the early states if you look at his 12 year record. Chuck Grassley is also relatively conservative considering the GOP only won Iowa in 2004.

Ted Cruz went hunting with King and Tancredo a while back.

King and Chris Christie have been buddies since 2009.

In the early states there is: Chuck Grassley IA, Steve King IA4, Tom Latham IA3 (retiring), Ayotte NH , Scott Brown NH (maybe), Joni Ernst(maybe), Frank Guinta NH1(maybe), Gowdy, Mulvaney, Sanford, Duncan, Wilson (SC), Lindsey Graham, Tim Scott, Ted Yoho(FL), Rubio, Joe Heck (NV), Amodei(NV) and Heller(NV).

The NV delegation is pretty weak and probably owned by Adelson anyway so Rand is getting no help there.

The King event is in part out of gratitude for the congressman's support for Christie at a congressional hearing two years ago, King adviser Chuck Laudner said. Christie, then the nominee for New Jersey governor, faced pointed questioning at a Judiciary subcommittee hearing in the then-Democratic-controlled House about no-bid contracts he awarded as U.S. attorney in New Jersey.

In other words, King wanted the committee to stop digging into what happened during the Bush administration.

King then asked Christie to name the five businesses that were subject to the agreement Cohen had cited. After the witness did so, King pointed out that Cohen had issued a press release taking credit for an $800,000 earmark to one of those corporations, Smith & Nephew. King asked for unanimous consent to put Cohen's press release into the the record, saying
"I make this point because it is easy to point fingers. It is easy to make allegations. It is much more dif- ficult to make a cogent case against deferred prosecution agree- ments. No one on this panel has made a case against them."

King says the Liberty side of the party is important.
He mentions getting involved in the early states and travelling to NH and SC. Maybe linking up with Florida.

Jennifer Rubin also hates Steve King on immigration as she does Rand's FP. I think King was a little ahead of Rubin on where immigration was going.

Raul Labrador is the only person King has said anything about and that is just him arguing with Labrador since November 2012 about why the GOP lost. I think Amash or Bentivolio should get King to help them with Socons.

Media hypes Rep. Steve King while immigration reform advances

The photo accompanying Politico’s report of an anti-immigration in Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s Richmond, Va., district shows exactly 14 people. (Politico claims a grand total of 60 attended the rally.) Polling shows King’s own constituents favor immigration reform.

In New Hampshire, another tea party pratfall

Even worse is the choice of Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2013/08/13/media-hypes-rep-steve-king-while-immigration-reform-advances/)who was repudiated (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/07/23/steve-king-comments-on-immigration-called-beneath-the-dignity-of-the-house/) by his own party last summer for egregious remarks about Hispanics (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/07/24/republicans-steve-king-problem/). Why on earth — at a time when the GOP is fighting to escape the stereotype of intolerance — would any GOP group invite him? It’s hard to fathom.

Free advice is worth what you pay for it, but here goes. To other GOP pols attending: Don’t be photographed with King or with Trump. It’s likely to come back to haunt you. And if, like Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), you are making a pitch to Hispanics, to the party to go “beyond deportations” and to potential primary voters as a guy who can expand the party, you really don’t want to be within arm’s length. As for the hosts of the event, when you invite clowns like Trump and King, it’s not a “cattle call”; it’s a circus.

Club for Growth spokesman Barney Keller contacted CQ Roll Call Monday night to let us know he felt the headline and lede of the story were disingenuous.
From Keller: “Our annual Congressional scorecard is designed to capture a lawmaker’s votes for one year. This year, Congressman King got a 71%. In previous years, he’s received in the 90s and has a lifetime score of 91%. If more people had lifetime scores of 91% the world would be a better place.

But King did dissent on some other Club for Growth votes. Namely, King voted for a flood insurance amendment from Bill Cassidy, R-La., that grandfathered National Flood Insurance Program rates, and he voted for the flood insurance program, which Club for Growth opposed.

It will be interesting to see how Cassidy (Louisiana) and Tom Cotton run based on their votes on farm bill and flood insurance. Cassidy took a lot of fiscally weak votes that are popular in his state. Cotton voted against the farm bill.

According to CQ Roll Call’s math, King lost about 15 percentage points over votes related to the farm bill.
