On a side note on the growing police state, any observers here recall if things have always been like this or were better before US liberated Iraq?

As I recall, they were a lot better before the war on terror.

back of the envelope...

lets say average household is 3, so US population of 300M reduced to 100M
at 1M, your chances of being SWATed are one in 20 in any given year.
at 100M it's one in 2,000
average life expectancy is 75 years
at current rates of raids, your likelihood of being SWATed in your lifetime is one in 27...

The rise of this BS is on an exponential curve...
And they raid the wrong house, how often... 40% of the time...

Just a comforting thought... /dripping sarcasm...

The active duty, boots on the ground military is trained in this crap and use it daily.

What do you think is going to happen when they get laid off and come home...

They are getting laid off and coming home, it's not going to get better.

Well, we've been told, "they hate us for our freedoms", so I guess the power elite have decided to get rid of those freedoms to appease the terrorists.

I have no fear of ululating Jihadists kicking in my door at oh-dark-thirty, shooting my dog, grenading my kids, wrecking my home and lighting my ass up with automatic weapons fire.

I do have, as a law abiding (at least as much as one can comply with the Byzantine web of laws in AmeriKa) citizen, a very reasonable concern that local, county, state or federal "law enforcement" may do that at any time.

Now they will be upset with you for blowing their cover.

It is much worse than returning soldiers wanting to continue on with cracking heads. Below is a pic from our recent youth "hang out with the SWAT team day". Bus loads of publicly indoctrinated future tax-hosts spend a whole day each year, with even more opportunities for boy scouts and the likes. They get the works as in "only trained officers should be handling weapons in dangerous situations", "hostile encounters", well you get it. The kids eat it up. We don't need a federal police force, as our locals are doing the job just fine. We are screwed. It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better, as they say.

We already live in an open air prison. The noose just has not been tightened enough to wake most up, but it eventually will.

Everything changed after 9-11

We are led to believe that man's nature changed after 9-11 as well. The "bad guys" became more evil but somehow the "good guys" became less likely to do evil when presented with unlimited power to supposedly battle the "bad guys".

*guffaw*

What a mind job.

Law enforcement agencies have been actively recruiting returning combat veterans for years now.
