LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) – Washington and Lee University says it is removing Confederate battle flags from its campus.

The move was announced in a lengthy email from university president Kenneth Rusio to faculty and students on Tuesday.

This spring, a group of law students demanded the school banish the flag from campus and repudiate one of its namesakes, Gen. Robert E. Lee. The group at the private liberal arts college found the flag troublesome in part because they had to pledge to an honor code in its presence at the Lee Chapel.

Well , they could just go with The Bonnie Blue Flag , or even the First Confederate Navy Jack , or the First National Flag with thirteen stars . All very nice :)

I wonder if that means we'll have to toss all the old inventory of their school paper products (which we make at my work) and come up with new ones?

I wonder if the students will now demand that they exhume Lee's remains under the chapel. After all they still have to pledge to an honor code there in the chapel.

The argument that the battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia should be used as only a historical instrument is convincing in most cases. It is not here as Lee Chapel is the resting place of Robert E. Lee (also where the Lee in Washington and Lee University comes from) and Lee Chapel has a very large monument to him as its central focus. The argument that it should be removed because it was the flag of a slave holding nation is both inaccurate (the CSA national flag was very different looking) and nonsensical as the USA was a slave-holding nation (with 4 slave states) all through the Civil War. If you really want to get rid of all flags of slave-holding nations, you should get rid of this flag too:

Good points... also the largest slave importers/trader businesses were located in the Northern "Union States"... additionally, the very last state legislators to abolish slavery within their borders were northern state... if these idiot progressives want to split hairs at every turn.

Society has become so engrained with brainwashed stupidity things will only get worse.

I posted on this a while back. Search fu has been failing me. There has been a steady effort to remove all vestiges of the South during the War of Aggression. High schools being renamed. Flags being taken down.
Even the U.S. Army WAR College has been bent to P.C. and removed pictures of Confederate Generals. SMDH. The victors surely rewrite the history.

If these progressive clowns want to go to extremes... I vote to celebrate "Virginia Independence Day" on April 17, 1861 of EVERY YEAR. You even have the freedom of your own choice of Flag(s) to post. Virginia Independence remembrance of the War of Northern Aggression, Violence, Death and Destruction.

Looks like Pat Cleburne was right.

"Surrender means that the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the War; will be impressed by all the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision."...........General Pat Cleburne, CSA
