RENO, Nev. (AP) — U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say they agree with a Nevada sheriff's position that rancher Cliven Bundy must be held accountable for his role in an April standoff between his armed supporters and the federal agency.

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Bundy crossed the line when he allowed states' rights supporters, including self-proclaimed militia members, onto his property to aim guns at police.

Bureau spokeswoman Celia Boddington, in a statement Saturday, said the case remains under investigation and the bureau is "working diligently to ensure that those who broke the law are held accountable."

But she disputed Gillespie's contention that the agency mishandled a roundup of Bundy's cattle 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. The roundup was thwarted by Bundy and his armed supporters.

Cliven Bundy's War: Inside the Rancher's Independent Sovereign Republic

Did you know there was a revolutionary war fought on American soil earlier this spring? It's true! Back in April, a small band of militiamen led by a rabble-rousing Nevada rancher named Cliven Bundy defeated the United States of America without firing a single shot. And so a brand-new country—sand-choked, heatstroked, and very heavily armed—was formed inside this one. GQ's Zach Baron spent a few days behind the borders of the fledgling republic and discovered that the uprising was the easy part

He can talk and whine all he wants but Cliven still has the checkpoints set up and with 10,000 Oathkeepers are available to relieve other Oathkeepers at the ranch if they have their families at home.

In bold, in the article.

The front yard is full of kids' toys, a tire swing dangling from a tree, little white wisps blowing in the wind, a RON PAUL 2012 campaign sign stuck in the fence.

i figured they would wait and then do something again. this might get bloody. the government has pushed this guy as far as theyre going to. they had better leave it alone. this will be the first in many uprisings if they push this.

Brandishing is not peaceful.

Brandishing is perfectly peaceful. In this case, it seems to have been the only way to maintain the peace after the feds showed up.

That's what I thought when a Land Management agency showed up with sniper rifles. I mean, since when do you need a sniper rifle to manage land? Does that grass get ornery at times? The only way to kill a tree is a .308 through the trunk?

That militia probably never would have shown up if the BLM hadn't first displayed a show of unreasonable force, and Bundy would have lost his cows without a whimper, and the whole round up would have been a non-story. In some ways, maybe it's a good thing the BLM crossed the line first.

Right, so let's call a spade a spade.

The BLM threatened violence and the militia threatened right back.

Pretty much that. They came in with far more firepower than a cow eating a few clumps of grass in thousands of acres of lonely sagebrush warranted.
