Swimmers subjected to warrantless bag searches at public pool

Individual rights continue to be discarded at every type of public gathering.

Posted on June 23, 2014 by Site Staff in News

http://www.policestateusa.com/2014/dreamland-pool-searches/

KENOVA, WV — A popular summer attraction in West Virginia will now be marred its tight security. Swimmers at the famous Dreamland Pool will now have police officers searching their bags as they attempt to use the public facility.

The landmark attraction has been around for nearly 90 years, and is owned by the taxpayers of the city of Kenova.

Now, upon entry, cops will shuffle through the public’s belongings as they try to use those facilities.

Police are justifying the dragnet searches because of two “incidents” involving drugs on the property during this season’s crowded opening weekend. One incident pertained to a person smoking pot in the parking lot; the other involved ladies getting high in the bathroom.

“In today’s society, people look for anywhere there’s a gathering to try to do whatever it is they’re wanting to do,” was the absurd justification given by Fox Heaberlin, Kenova’s Public Works Supervisor and Dreamland Pool manager.

Cops will also be searching for weapons, because lawful self-defense is not allowed on the property, not even from those licensed to carry. Only police are afforded such privileges.

Police recited the usual mantra about upholding safety and order in a Facebook post, while discarding the very oath they swore to uphold and the individual rights of those they serve.

The fact that people cannot even go swimming without having cops systematically violating their 4th Amendment rights is truly indicative of the America’s trend toward a police state.

Bag search?

So is this like a public pool at an international airport or something?

I don't get it.

You know what would be funny?

If all of the non-violent drug offenders got released from prison and we replaced them with all of the most hardcore drug warriors and supporters of the war on drugs.

Then like a couple weeks later after they've had time to think about what they've done they can be released and given a message that they can't just go around kidnapping people because they are doing things they don't like.

No and no, just a town pool.

What's to get?

The legal precedent has been set, and Idiot AmeriKa is fine with, the idea of cops rifling through your shit, or searching you, whenever and wherever they feel like it, for any reason, or no reason at all.

So, this is what you get.

Look for this type of stuff to increase, exponentially, as time goes by.

Freedom.

Bullshit, when I was a kid the bathrooms at the public pool always smelled like weed, I think it was the lifeguards.

It's gonna take a long time to go through all those bags.

It's not poetic justice unless we completely ignore the fact that some of these drug warriors may simply have made a mistake, and keep them locked up for 20 years and make them totally unemployable on the outside.

But only if you are given permission to have a pool by the City, County, Homeowners Association, Home Insurance Company, Nosy Neighbors, have current Liability Insurance, have at least TWO Six Foot Fences with barbed wire and an armed security guard, and have to privately pay for a Lifeguard, and agree to not go skateboarding in an empty pool without proper helmets, knee pads, cameras, and agree to fluoridate your pool through out the entire year.

Aaah so much Freedom I could go swimming in the stuff.

I believe in many ways, this thread points to the reason the United States of America, home of brave, land of the free, has the largest prison population on the face of the planet.

Then again, that may be because our prison system has been privatized.

There's a difference between private prisons and "private" prisons.

A truly privatized prison system, along with a privatized justice system, would be great. Bob Murphy is great at explaining how that could work.

On the other hand, "private" prisons (ie. fascistic, state-corporate conglomerations) are terrible.

Just a thought.

I was asked to expand on this thought, so I thought while I actually have a moment, I would.

One of the most shocking things I've learned about my country, is that of ALL the counties on the face of our planet, the USA is #1. Think about that for a minute. Honestly, I feel a bit stunned every time I think about it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate

I wondered how in the world this was possible.

Well, as it turns out, there is money to be made by keeping people in prison. The rise of private prisons has exploded over the last several years.

https://www.aclu.org/prisoners-rights/private-prisons

The subject of the OP is that these days, no matter where you are, or what you are doing, their is a special branch of the police there to ensure you are not a terrorist, and to get as many people as possible into "the private system", where there is plenty of money to be made.

Personally, I don't like it.

Christian Liberty

No.

The natural efficiencies and effectiveness of the market should never, under any circumstances, be applied to throwing people in cages.

I understand what you are saying here, but here's the thing. There are some people who are just plain bad and need to be either locked up or killed so that the rest of us can live without unnecessary fear. I'm talking about people that are committing murder or similar crimes. Who should do this? We know the State is itself a gang of thieves and criminals, so I think its clear that they are disqualified. How should it be done?

I don't know the answer to this, but it doesn't matter. When there is a need for something, the market provides it.
