WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' confidence in Congress has sunk to a new low. Seven percent of Americans say they have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in Congress as an American institution, down from the previous low of 10% in 2013. This confidence is starkly different from the 42% in 1973, the first year Gallup began asking the question.
These results come from a June 5-8 Gallup poll that updated Americans' confidence in 17 U.S. institutions that Americans either read about or interact with in government, business, and society.
Americans' current confidence in Congress is not only the lowest on record, but also the lowest Gallup has recorded for any institution in the 41-year trend. This is also the first time Gallup has ever measured confidence in a major U.S. institution in the single digits. Currently, 4% of Americans say they have a great deal of confidence in Congress, and 3% have quite a lot of confidence. About one-third of Americans report having "some" confidence, while half have "very little," and another 7% volunteer that they have "none."
Confidence in Congress has varied over the years, with the highest levels in the low 40% range recorded in the 1970s and again in the mid-1980s. Confidence rose in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but has declined since 2004, culminating in this year's historic low.

The dearth of public confidence in their elected leaders on Capitol Hill is yet another sign of the challenges that could face incumbents in 2014's midterm elections -- as well as more broadly a challenge to the broad underpinnings of the nation's representative democratic system.
We can only hope. I don't even know what Gallup's trying to get at with that last line though.

The MIC must be pleased. Confidence in cops is way too high.

While I'd love to be happy about this, I'm not.
The only reason people hate congress is because they are not regulating them and passing out free shit enough.

74? Damn the love for the military is compulsory.
Lets introduce a bill; no taxes are due unless congress is above 98% approval rating.
Edit: Never mind that, they would just rig the polls.

Thats the witty and incredibly accurate comment I was waiting for.
People wont revolt over gross criminal conduct by those in power.
People will revolt over a 1% decrease in their welfare.

My tag line is always: if Congress's approval rating is x then 100-x% of the bills that pass the President's desk should be vetoed!
So in this case, Obama should be vetoing 93% of the legislation Congress "pens" (and by pens I mean their lobbyists pen).
Whatever happened to those checks and balances they teach about in school?

Well combine that last line:
as well as more broadly a challenge to the broad underpinnings of the nation's representative democratic system.
With the 74% confidence rating for the military and seems clear to me that the country is ripe for disbanding the congress and officially embracing a military dictatorship.

Full Nazi Retard, in the blink of an eye.
48 hours is all it will take...after the next "terror" attack kills 30,000...or 3 million.

So could Lindsey Graham be correct in an "imminent Terrorist attack"? He would know cuz he is one of those trying to piss off every potential terrorist on the planet, funding those same Terrorists labelled as "Rebels" in other countries, and thereby providing them the funds and means to attack us.
Next False Flag is probably gonna have to be pretty big as people seem to be completely indifferent to bombings and explosions anymore. And that worries me.

I have no doubt Loafers Graham and those like him in government will make it so.

I call BS. If Americans hate Congress so much why do they elect the same cast of characters over and over again? Besides that polling today is pretty much mindless. You can manipulate questions to get the answers you want and in the end I really don't care what the "public" thinks even though I'm held hostage to the collective stupidity of the masses.

Because other polls show that they usually have a much higher approval rating for their own representatives. This poll asks about the congress as a whole.

Well, let's see. A few years go this poll stood at 19% and 81% of incumbents were reelected.
I guess that means this November 93% will be reelected.
Something is terribly wrong here.
Because other polls show that they usually have a much higher approval rating for their own representatives. This poll asks about the congress as a whole.
Nobody--nobody--says it out loud, but this is how Congress works: If you elect an honest person to the House of Representatives, then everyone else will steal your money and your district will starve for a lack of pork. So vote for the biggest crook you can find in the name of enlightened self interest!
And the libs slam Ron Paul because he inserted earmarks in the budget before he voted against it. Well, maybe that made him a fool, but better he made a fool of himself than his constituents who elected him.
