McCarthy told lawmakers he would defer to the Financial Services Committee on the Export-Import Bank, which expires at the end of September and has become a flashpoint between establishment and Tea Party Republicans. Cantor helped negotiate the last extension of the lending agency, while Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) wants to let its charter expire.

This could be especially problematic for the Ex-Im Bank and its backers in the business world. The committee with jurisdiction, the House Financial Services Committee, is chaired by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R., Texas), who is an avowed opponent of the bank. Mr. Hensarling has urged fellow lawmakers both publicly and privately to not support reauthorization, referring to the agency as an example of “crony capitalism” and saying it put taxpayers at risk through its loan portfolios.

The last time this was an issue, in 2012, current House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) circumvented Mr. Hensarling and brokered a two-year reauthorization. But with Mr. Cantor stepping down as leader at the end of July, it remains unclear whether his likely replacement, current Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.), would similarly step in.

“Kevin was very clear in the meeting that the chairman need to take care of it,” Rep. Devin Nunes (R., Calif.), a supporter of Mr. McCarthy said Thursday. Asked what would happen if Mr. Hensarling declines to take up a reauthorization, Mr. Nunes said bluntly: “Well, then it will expire.”

The last Export-Import Bank reauthorization passed 330-93 in the House in 2012 and yet we have a chance to kill the bank this time around.

If your Congressman sits on the Financial Services Committee, please contact them and urge opposition to the Export-Import Bank. Here are the list of members: http://financialservices.house.gov/about/members.htm

Ah ha!

I smell a backroom agreement between Hensarling and the GOP establishment. I'd wager this is the reason that Hensarling didn't throw his hat in the ring for Majority Leader. They promised to let him lead on Financial Services Committee issues...

Yeah, but Labrador would likely let it die, too.

Well, with McCarthy now leader, I hope this is the case.

It would set the important precedent of getting rid of a federal agency.

Did you see Michael Steele suggested Eric Cantor to lead the RNC??

That idea has been floated around. Apparently the establishment GOP prefers suicide to actually listening to the average GOP voters.

The GOP is quite good at reversals. If one does not fully agree (and obey) the establishment GOP, then one is labelled a Terrorist. Simple as that.

As far as ending Export Import Bank, will it matter if we have a One World Currency owned by some Super Central Bank?

There wouldn't have to be a deal. If Hensarling really wants to be leader, his best play would probably be to wait until November and quietly assemble is forces. In the meantime, McCarthy would have to do whatever Hensarling wanted in terms of Import Export and any of Hensarling's pet projects to try and keep him happy. Same situation that existed with Rand and McConnell.

We have a great opportunity to end a federal agency but grassroots need to step up and pressure their Congressmen.

Ex-Im Bank renewal in jeopardy

Business groups fear the shake-up in House leadership will set back their efforts to renew authorization for the Export-Import bank.

With Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) -- an Ex-Im critic during the 2012 battle -- jumping into the majority whip post, supporters of the bank say a divided GOP leadership is unlikely to push for a longterm renewal of the bank’s charter, which expires Sept. 30.

...

Business leaders have flooded Capitol Hill in recent weeks, with more visits planned for June and July, touting to lawmakers about how Ex-Im has helped businesses in their districts. But whether that will be enough to overcome tea party opposition remains the big unknown.

That would be very symbolic.
