Only one sequence of images posted on a pro-Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Twitter account on 6 June appears to show an Abrams actually being destroyed. A militant is seen placing a charge on the tank and an object is also thrown into an open turret hatch. Flames are then seen coming out of the hatches. The fate of the crew is unclear.

Another sequence posted on 28 May purportedly shows the same militant placing a charge on or in the turret of another Abrams in a hull-down position. While the extent of the damage caused by the resulting explosion is unclear, the fact that militants are repeatedly getting close to the tanks suggests the vehicles lack adequate infantry support.

Most American have been sold the belief that the M1 is darned near invincible. The Anit-2ndrs like to point out how futile resistance is against modern arms. As the ISIL is proving, that's not quite the case.

Hmmm

Provides some kind of hope in a really twisted way I guess...

I am guessing Iraqi infantry is too afraid and just send in abrahams thinking it'll do the job by itself and immune to ISIS infantry attacks.

Seems more wise if they'd just capture the thing.

They may have..
A shape charge on the turret would wipe the crew. It is possible that some could be salvaged.

Possibly some were captured intact.

Tanks are easy to kill once you get past the psychological factor.

Well. What I'm sayin', 8 million freakin' bucks; don't blow it up more.

Sell that puppy. Million bucks, any taker. That's a lot of rpg's and meals.

The 140 Iraqi M1A1s have downgraded armor - and the price should be closer to $5 mil each.

Price is what it cost us.

They gave them to Iraq.

An Iraqi crewed abrams and an american one are not the same thing.Nothing is invincible especially not tanks. It all depends on how it is used.Iraq is a desert flat terrain with no place to hide, cities and hill/mountain regions are a completely another thing.

If the discussion is about an armed resistance in the USA ,it all depends on how big part of your country rebels. If one state rebels of course it will get pummeled but if a big enough part of the country rebels the military will not be able to cover everything and the more brutal they become out of desperation the more the population will rebel.

Any tank is a death trap.. They are quite easily destroyed..

I would not even accept a ride on the outside of one.. It is a psychological weapon that has been obsolete since WWII.

They can be killed a dozen ways.. and have only limited use as a mobile artillery piece. one which would be much more efficient without most of it's armor.

The more tanks destroyed, more the Military Industrial Complex has to replace them.

So it's called the ISIL now? When did it stop being called ISIS and the "Syria" part dropped from their name? Did I miss something?

Im thinking this is the building of a pretext to attack Assad's military, like Obama's people wanted all along. There's some chess game being played here but the pieces aren't clear yet.

Twitter Snitch Spills ISIS’s Secrets

Good as thread as any to make a comment about this funny article, look what it says:

For more than six months a series of tweets have detailed the alleged covert alliances and conspiratorial machinations behind the ascension of The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham

How can anybody respect a mainstream media so daft?

For six months?

Two weeks ago, ISIL stormed Iraq, and took over a quarter of it in a blitzkreig unseen in history by stateless actors.

A supposed trove of intelligence...

HA HA HA HA

The United States went around kicking third world, uninspired armies for 20 years, and fell for it's own hype.

The drawing to close of America’s decade-long war in the Middle East has inadvertently built a few new memorials of its own — not to lives lost, but to the cubic tons of cash wasted in pursuit of nothing. Perhaps the largest of these monuments to America’s vulgar obsession with war and waste lay on a 36,000 acre patch of desert, on the border between Nevada and California.

You might remember back in 2013 , when Paul Ryan and his friends were pushing for the purchase of 300 brand-new M-1 Abrams tanks (http://aattp.org/teapublican-wherever-you-have-a-lot-of-muslims-you-have-a-lot-of-problems-video/) at the cost of about $3 billion dollars. This particular purchase was most notable because the Army had already come out and said (ahem):

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, the Levant and al-Sham are just two different names for Syria.

OK but why is the Syria part of the name slowly being changed out in the last few days of reporting? Looks like linguistic games.

Most Americans are geographically ignorant. "Levant" is a term going back to the French colonial period in the region, and describes the region rather than national boundaries. Those same Americans would also be clueless if their news report used the term Asia Minor. Even if they can't find Syria on a map, they may know that there is a war there. I try not to contribute to conspiracy what is far more likely to be intellectual laziness.
