TEL AVIV – The U.S. Embassy broke new ground and raised a few eyebrows by flying the rainbow-colored gay pride flag below the Stars and Stripes in a show of support for the city’s week long Gay Pride week, not to mention a rare example of tolerance in the wider Middle East.
“Proudly flying the colors!" read a dual-language post on the Facebook page of U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro’s office. "For the first time in history, the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv has raised the Pride flag together with our American flag. We are proud to join with the municipality of Tel Aviv-Yafo and its residents in celebrating LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual] Pride Week.”

I'm curious too. I don't have much of an opinion of Israel more than "we should stop caring so much about a Middle Eastern nation" despite the fact that I'm an evangelical. And my attitude toward this is kind of "meh, governments have always supported evil, usually worse than this." But then, I'm not the typical evangelical either:p

I hear you. But then, you're not a normal evangelical either:p (Lest anyone mistake this as an attack, I said the same thing about myself earlier in the thread.) Most American evangelicals are more than happy to go to war in any Middle Eastern country on the off-chance that it might be "defending Israel" in some way. And if you dare bring up the idea that Palestine might have a right to defend itself, they'll call you a terrorist sympathizer:p (I'm actually less opinionated on this whole conflict than most libertarians I am aware of, but nonetheless...)

For what its worth, Israel already pays for abortions. That SHOULD be enough to convince any evangelical not to be a rabid supporter of Israel. In fact, the abortion epidemic in the United States should be sufficient to destroy the belief in American exceptionalism.

I agree with FF, I am for freedom, everyone's freedom.
That is why I was totally on board with Ron Paul's solution for the "gay marriage" battle. And it baffled me why more Christians did not see that as the perfect solution, to get the government out of marriage. I believe that for most Christians, they don't want to be put into the position to have to even make a choice on gay marriage. Period.

I am an evangelical Christian. I don't support Israel because of what Israel does or does not do. That is between God and Israel, and I know who will have the last word there. LOL :p

It's so true though! The Roman military was a bunch of sodomites, and that is something that was integral to its structure. The cult of Mithra was predominant amongst their military leadership, and it is basically the same Patricians who continue to occupy the "Holy Land" today.
