US House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R VA-07) has been defeated by his primary challenger, David Brat. (Yaaaay!! :D)

So ... who do you think will be (or is most likely to become) the next House Majority Leader?

Kevin McCarthy. I can't see anyone independent being given power like that.

If there were ever any reason to crave DC it would be to be in their presence and listen to their brains work the strategy...

Within hours, several names emerged to challenge the 49-year old for top leadership spots. There's Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.), currently the fourth-ranking Republican; Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Tex.), the head of the House Financial Services Committee; and Pete Sessions (R-Tex.), who chairs the powerful House Rules Committee and has been passed over before for leadership positions.

Who should the American people start pushing for?

Walter Jones

That would be something. After that heavy handed attempt to squeeze Walter out, and he comes back, "I'm still here, you f*ckers! Establishment purge time!"

Interesting...

More recently, as Financial Services Chairman, Hensarling has of late become increasingly recognized as a foe of Cantor's on a number of issues that separate Republicans over fiscal issues.

The two clashed earlier this year when Cantor bypassed the Financial Services Committee—and previous GOP pledges to stick to regular order—to work out passage of a flood-insurance reform bill with Democrats, which Hensarling opposed. And another potential battle could soon erupt between the two over whether to recharter the little-known Export-Import bank, which conservatives oppose.

Kevin McCarthy on Path to Take No. 2 House Leadership Job
Jeb Hensarling's decision not to run allows McCarthy to slide into the job. Now the campaign for the whip job is on.
http://www.nationaljournal.com/congress/kevin-mccarthy-on-path-to-take-no-2-house-leadership-job-20140611

Rep. Jeb Hensarling will not run for House majority leader in next week's special election, giving Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy a wide-open path to the No. 2 spot in the House Republican leadership.

If McCarthy wins the majority leader's post in next Thursday's special election, there will be an immediate and subsequent contest to replace him as majority whip. It was thought that this race would feature Reps. Steve Scalise and Peter Roskam going head-to-head, and senior Republicans pegged Scalise as the odds-on favorite. But Rep. Marlin Stutzman let it be known Thursday morning that he, too, will run, according to GOP aides, complicating the math of that contest as Stutzman could draw some conservative support away from Scalise.

Hensarling's decision is a blow to House conservatives, as he was the last of their preferred candidates to be seriously considering a run against McCarthy. (Conservatives are launching a last-minute attempt to change the mind of Rep. Jim Jordan, who's already ruled out a run, but it's doubtful they'll find any success.)

For the sizable bloc of tea-party-allied lawmakers who have been fixated on injecting fresh blood into the upper-most echelons of GOP leadership, there are only a few who they view as legitimate, acceptable candidates besides Hensarling and Jordan: Paul Ryan and Tom Price.

Paul Ryan. Ugh. Price is already out (http://politics.blog.ajc.com/2014/06/12/tom-price-bows-out-of-fight-for-southern-voice-in-house-gop-leadership/).

Probably Paul Ryan.

Doesn't want the job. I think he is going to head ways and means. That is where the real power is.
