Hillary Clinton claims her family was "dead broke" and saddled with legal bills after she and Bill Clinton left the White House -- a comment that drew ridicule Monday from Republicans.

The former first lady made the remarks to ABC News in an interview that aired Monday.

"We came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton told ABC News. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to, you know, piece together the resources for mortgages, for houses, for Chelsea's education. You know, it was not easy."

Pffft. Too bad their supporters are often dumb enough to believe it. All the speaking jobs and book deals... They are rich as ****.

To be fair, the "broke" claim was only made in reference to the Clinton's financial status earlier in their careers and immediately upon leaving the white house. The subsequent accumulation of wealth from speaking fees etc. was addressed and defended but not denied.

BTW, I saw the interview and Rand's potential candidacy was addressed. It was in relation to questions about the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Rand's name was raised by Diane Sawyer and he was pictured and quoted (in a video clip). Hillary commented that he too would be subject to criticism as "fair game" should he decide to run. He was the only potential GOP candidate to be mentioned by name. In fact, I don't remember specific reference to any other Republican by name except for Karl Rove (I could be wrong there, but there was definitely no mention of Cruz, Huckabee, Christie, Jeb Bush, et al).

Welcome to life at the bottom. Oh, wait, still not there as they get everything basically paid for by us for the rest of their natural born lives, and probably even some well beyond that as well.

I do sometimes wonder how long any politician would survive on Food Stamps.
