LODI — Police Chief Vincent Caruso will retire with a $342,000 payment for unused time off, the Record reported.

He will also receive $10,412 a month in pension for nearly 27 years on the job.

Lodi will borrow money over five years to pay Caruso in two installments. Mayor Mark N. Schrieks said he would support statewide reforms to limit retirement payouts.

If a lucrative payout and an unbridled power trip is your goal, then Root, yes you are.

Nah, not really. Money actually doesn't actually buy happiness.

And the dumbshits deserve every hero they allow to steal their pennies.

(I just wish the dumbshits and their heroes would leave the rest of us out of it ...)

In the 2012 presidential election, Democrat Barack Obama received 5,420 votes here (67.2% vs. 54.8% countywide), ahead of Republican Mitt Romney with 2,508 votes (31.1% vs. 43.5%) and other candidates with 56 votes (0.7% vs. 0.9%), among the 8,070 ballots cast by the borough's 12,305 registered voters, for a turnout of 65.6% (vs. 70.4% in Bergen County)

Democracy.

As is usually the case, they endorse it, and want more.

(And yes I am aware of the pointless nature of casting a ballot for Romney or Obama. It is merely a metric of mindset.)

I don't think casting a vote for Romney indicates much of a different mindset than casting a vote for Obama. I feel bad for the 0.7%.

(Mind you, I do understand that there are some genuine constitutionalists who vote Republican as a "lesser of evils" choice, but I think that's a minority of Republicans, and especially New Jersey Republicans.)

got damn. ANd after only 27 years of work? SO you could get a job as a cop in your early 20s, with no college degree, and retire at 50 with a 120k/year pension? Freaking insane. How does this shit exist?

Congress is an even better proposal.

After 2 years in Congress you retire with a $174,000 a year salary... FOR LIFE.

I think the congressional pension is a little more nuanced than that and not quite as generous as you think. That said they still get a ton of money.

Not quite and requires a minimum of 5 years.

I wanna act outraged like the rest of the responders but this is the money he is owed. He could have collected the same money with more value when he was earning his PTO but he decided to take the inflated lump sum currency with his retirement. Plus the 10k/month pension for a police chief is not even that outrageous when you think about it. A few years back, there was a loop hole were Omaha police pension rules were setup in such a way that police could able to add overtime and PTO to the final years salary calculations. Some of the ordinary police men were able to retire early and make serious bank in the process.

Compared to what police in other parts of the country(think California) are getting away with, this is nothing. If anything NJ is way better than average.
