Can any Mississippians give a report from the ground. If anyone has details please share. What time do the polls close? What website will give the quickest and most up to date numbers once the polls close?

Thanks!

Polls close at 7 pm CT.

AP's results will be posted here:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2014/by_state/MS_US_Senate_0603.html

There's a small chance no candidate will get 50%+1 because of a third candidate, which would force McDaniel and Cochran to a runoff on June 24.

Senate Kills Bid For Drug Imports
The vote nullifies legislation allowing consumers to buy prescriptions abroad
http://www.theledger.com/article/20070508/NEWS/705080387

The Associated PressLast Modified: Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 12:00 a.m.

WASHINGTON - In a triumph for the pharmaceutical industry, the Senate on Monday killed a drive to allow consumers to buy prescription drugs from abroad at a significant savings over domestic prices.
On a 49-40 vote, the Senate required the administration to certify the safety and effectiveness of imported drugs before they can be imported, a requirement that officials have said they cannot meet.
On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote to adopt the safety and effectiveness certification requirement and a "no" vote was a vote to defeat it.

Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., voted yes; Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., voted no.
"Well, once again the big drug companies have proved that they are the most powerful and best financed lobby in Washington," said Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican.
The vote neutralized a second amendment, later passed on a voice vote, that would legalize the importation of prescription drugs manufactured in Canada, Australia, Europe, Japan and New Zealand.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., called the certification amendment, introduced by Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., a "poison pill" for the drug-imports legislation.
Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., acknowledged it nullified his bid to allow the purchase of drugs abroad.
"This is a setback for us. But the drug industry is one of the strongest industries in this town," Dorgan said.
Sen. Mike Enzi, a Wyoming Republican, said the requirement for a safety certification was essential to protect the public.

Come on Covington county, high turnout for McDaniel!

Don't I recall Cruz and Ron Paul both won in runoffs? It's a fair point about being tapped out on money, but I really think the momentum and environment would favor us heavily. And coming that close to a 4-decade incumbent should hopefully inspire a few donations to make up for it.

Just 20 years ago most of us would have gone to bed rather than watch a mainstream TV channel while awaiting results.

You know, regardless of outcome so far, I'm actually impressed at how competitive McDaniel has made this battle compared to other liberty style candidates who were trounced.

The problem that this I believe is well within the margin of counting error.... and absolutely within the margin where it is susceptible to fraud.

McDaniel's going to need to hit the ground running right now, pretty much, though me typing that on a forum won't really reiterate that to him. Given how he had more votes than Cochran into this, he'll need to siphon votes away from Cochran while also maintaining the edge that he had with the primary. Hopefully he can, because I'm sure the old guard GOP will throw everything they have at him.

No, he just needs more of his people to show up. Fewer people vote in runoffs, I think he will pull it off, his base is more fired up.

Basically, but hope so. The old guard will do and say anything to cling to power, so hopefully all of his folks and more keep campaigning, change the minds without changing the message and stay motivated. I look at folks like Eby and Fabby who made it to runoffs and lost, so hopefully this is different. Yes, they're radically different races, but here's hoping McDaniel's camp is prepared for this battle.

No, not at all. But it is a well known fact that within a certain % voter fraud becomes an increasingly likely factor in the race. And not to mention, Mississippi isn't exactly known for its honest politics.

Ouch, yeah. A number of differences, a big one is that they were both running for open seats, by the time the dust settled. That helped them get votes, BUT their opponents did not have evil voting records hanging around their necks like Albatrosses, yet

Politico's article had some interesting things worth noting, I believe:

Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran’s national backers awakened to a wrenching decision Wednesday: whether to continue pouring energy and cash into an effort to rescue a six-term incumbent who failed to win a majority of the vote in this week’s primary.
The dilemma is agonizing on every level, forcing longtime Cochran allies who have already spent millions defending him to gauge how realistic the beloved senior senator’s chances are to win a June 24 runoff.

American Crossroads, the powerful GOP outside-spending group, said Wednesday morning that it would not spend money in the Cochran-McDaniel race. Though Crossroads was not involved in the Mississippi primary prior to this week, the definitive statement that the group will not engage deprives national Republicans of a possible funding stream for Cochran’s effort.

Barbour says he's all in, though, so again, McDaniel best prepare himself for anything thrown his way, which will be everything. Should he become the nominee, I have to wonder if the old guard would even vote for him.

Also, McDaniel's speech that night.

The way I read it, they are opening the possibility of something illegal. (like paying or bussing people to vote? absentee votes?)
