So much stupidity with this story, so far. Is everyone just a flat idiot these days?

ATLANTA (Reuters) - A Georgia police officer moonlighting as a security guard was shot to death after attempting to arrest an intoxicated customer in the parking lot of a Waffle House restaurant, police said.

The officer's brother then shot and wounded the shooter, according to police. more at link, not much info yet

Probably should have just escorted her off the premises.

Was there even an indication she might try to drive?

I mean when I was younger, we would be bored and go to Denny's. Usually with one or two people that were drunk. I guess the entertaining part was to see how much our fucked up friends could still eat after they clearly had to much booze.

Under those circumstances, I could actually see a "Peace Officer" give young dumb people a stern talking to. But now we live in the times of Zero Tolerance Bullshit.

Nah, better to escalate the situation as they are taught to do when on-duty, since there are never any consequences for doing so -- oh, wait.

I guess those "bullet-proof" vests aren't so bullet-proof -- I just wonder what caliber/type of pistol ammo the shooter was using (maybe some of those steel-core "cop killer" bullets?).

No, but the woman, who did nothing other than I suspect try to get away, is charged with murder.

Pretty sure you get fried in GA for cop murder.

Not so much if you're a cop blowing up toddlers.

Is this really any different in GA than anywhere else? How often does cop murder actually even happen? It seems like more often its self-defense against a cop. On the rare occasions where a cop is killed just minding his own business, I'm willing to bet someone else was killed too (or the cop did something warranting revenge, say, strip searching a woman on the side of the road without cause Angry relatives wouldn't surprise me at all in those cases. But murder? When?)

So there is one less cop in the world?

No there will be two more tax ticks jumping to take his place. Kind of like street level drug dealers.

Kevin Jordan, who once lived in Chicago, was an ex-Marine and four-year veteran of the Griffin police force, Richardson said.

Sadly not surprising.

My thoughts with Jordan's children, who are of couse unfairly thrown into this whole mess. :(

I would like more info on the story, but my guess is that the Bowman guy was just defending his girlfriend. Why in the world approach her in the first place? It's not like she was actually in the action of driving drunk...

Who will enforce laws against thought crime then??

There's a bunch of news items on this now if you want more info.

Contempt of Cop

What a surprise.

The situation is a mess, though. All are at fault to some extent or another.
