View Full Version : For all its bluster, the government is clearly not worried about Snowden/Russia

Just a point I haven't heard made that should be obvious: numerous government officials have spoken about concerns that Snowden might help (or be coerced into helping) the Russians and providing intelligience to them, etc, and thus his being there represents a serious national security concern.

However, these claims are obviously false, because if they really believed Snowden being in Russia was a threat to national security, they have the unilateral power to get him out of there, either by giving him amnesty so he could return to the US, or even just giving him back his passport so he can move on to some other asylum-offering country which isn't Russia.

After all, surely the safety of all Americans is priority #1 and more important that trying to bring Edward Snowden to "justice", right? Because if not, isn't that basically what Snowden has argued -- that safety can't trump everything else?
