Bill Kristol is no fan of President Obama’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan. He made it quite clear on CNN’s “Crossfire” during a heated argument with The Atlantic’s Peter Beinart.

“We have sacrified blood and treasure in that country,” Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, said. “President Obama sent tens of thousands of troops there and now he is making their sacrifice in vain. I find it sickening.”

Makes me think of this:

"One can argue, as many Republicans do, that the solution to problems created or exacerbated by military interventions is a bigger military footprint. Boots on the ground in Libya, no withdrawals from Iraq or Afghanistan, no matter what the local governments say.

Yet conservatives have long recognized unintended consequences and sunk costs in other contexts. When billions or trillions have been spent on some unrealized social objective at home, they are the first to object when someone suggests the solution is to spend a few billion or trillion more. They are also the first to question whether Medicaid expansion is more likely to bring about the health outcomes enjoyed by members of Congress—or veterans on waiting lists at the VA.

Alas, conservatives don’t always think this way about war. From Vietnam to Iraq, they have often sounded like heavily armed liberals defending flailing government programs: all that is necessary is more resources and more confidence in the mission."

Oh.

So does Obama have to turn in his "born-again neo-con" card now?

It would seem Billy Kristol wants Democratic voters to think he has.

I guess that whole Nobel thing is no longer fooling the fools.

Kristol appeals to a false premise - that somehow the waste, fraud, criminality, and evil committed are now compelling reasons to continue with more of the very same.

Ah, Bill Kristol. Son of Irving Kristol, the godfather of neoconservatism, and the creator of the (now defunct) think tank, The Project for a New American Century.

This group had the biggest influence on George W. Bush's decision to go into Afghanistan, and Iraq.

And given the financial and human costs of these wars, and the possible ruining of the United States itself, it's probably safe to say that no individual has caused more harm to the US than Bill Kristol.

Kristol doesn't consider it a false premise. Of course, Kristol gets a piece of the action, too. So, a piece of more action is a compelling enough reason for him to collect a salary to go on TV sell us on the idea.

Kristol is no fool. He knows that the inevitable result in Afghanistan is an Islamic theocracy hostile to the US and that it will be regarded as a failure of US policy by almost anyone who thinks about it. He doesn't want his brand of rabid interventionism tainted with (yet another) failure so he is setting up his excuse now. "I TOLD you we shouldn't have withdrawn."
