"The first legislation aimed specifically at curbing US surveillance abuses revealed by Edward Snowden passed the House of Representatives on Thursday, with a majority of both Republicans and Democrats. But last-minute efforts by intelligence community loyalists to weaken key language in the USA Freedom Act led to a larger-than-expected rebellion by members of Congress, with the measure passing by 303 votes to 121. The bill's authors concede it was watered down significantly in recent days but insist it will still outlaw the practice of bulk collection of US telephone metadata by the NSA first revealed by Snowden."

Although they voted on it, they wont pay a damn bit of attention to it. Nor will they take any responsiblity for all their wrongdoings. Besides the language being completely Gutted, as discussed in another thread, it did pass. That is all.

Make bill that (was good but now) makes it seem like we are doing something: check
Vote for bill: check
Get praised by media: check
Nothing changes: check
Pull wool over sheeples' eyes more: check

You know it's bad when they make the author of the bill (Amash) disgusted by it and not even vote for it.

We could completely outlaw it, and it wouldn't matter. States throughout history do not stop these kinds of activities, they just make them more secret. The CIA didn't stop doing much of what the Church Committee uncovered, but they sure said they would at the time (and most of the public bought it).

You cannot, no matter what, trust the government or anything it tells you. I'm not a conspiracy theorist at all, I'm just a realist. These are the same people in some cases, and certainly is the same entity, that conducted unethical human experimentation in the United States on non-consenting civilians (and military personnel, for that matter) all throughout its history, and factually documented cases have happened as recent as the artificial blood experiments in our hospitals in the 2000s. What more evidence do you need to know they will never stop doing evil psychopathic things, and will never give up a program they like even if it is outlawed?
