McCain: Americans Should “Accept” That Their Private Conversations Are Being Monitored

“It’s just the way we live”

Senator John McCain told a radio show recently that Americans should “accept” the notion that their private conversations are being recorded by the government, even in the privacy of their own homes.

McCain was asked by host Dan Patrick what his thoughts were on the Donald Sterling controversy, in particular the concept of private conversations being recorded and then released publicly. Sterling’s controversial remarks became public after his girlfriend V. Stiviano taped hundreds of hours of private discussions between the two.

“What about taping somebody in his own home, using that…..” asked Patrick.

“It’s the world we’re living in, you don’t like it, but everything I say I expect to be recorded,” McCain responded.“It’s just the way we live, Dan. It’s something you’ve got to accept. I don’t particularly like it, but it is what it is,” added the Senator, making reference to a recent poll which revealed that 53% of Americans believed their telephone conversations were being listened to.

The clip is short, but the context in which he says to accept that your conversations are being recorded was not in reference to the spy agency. I don't doubt he believes that, but that's really not what he said. What he said is actually pretty decent advice.

He's on the radio right now in Phoenix. I tried calling in but they put me on hold for 30 minutes so I hung up. Too many people call in and hammer him when he's in a public forum. If there are any RPF folks in town, McCain will be at a Veteran's townhall in downtown phoenix today at noon at the Library on Central Ave at Roosevelt. I might chuck a shoe at him and get famous... who knows?!

Is this the equivalent of suggesting that one should comply with the rapist in the hope to avoid further injury or death?

I vote for 2 terms in the Senate and 6 in the House. I vote for Congress only being in session twice a year. I vote for nominal pay for all politicians (keep your day jobs, creeps) . I will then vote for people who intend to defund the alphabet agencies, and reduce the federal gov't down to its intended size. And I know how you're going to reply to this, but for now, I'm opting to participate in the process until such time as I have given up all hope, i.e. Clinton becomes Prez, or Bush becomes the nominee. If ether happen, I'm heading for the hills and starting my own commune. :D

hey McCain:

You and those of your ilk, should accept the fact that your days are numbered.

You keep insisting on painting bigger and brighter targets on your heads.
Now, you're even installing glow in the dark targets.

The people will not forget your role in all of this when it all comes crashing down.

I look forward to being a spectator during your treason trial....

I think Anonymous should hack this shit out of every piece of electronics he owns and release the contents. You know, cuz he should accept being transparent.

if explosives weren't planted in the towers we could have prevented 9/11. We should be given public access to all CIA communications!

I would rather record and make available instantly to the public in a searchable database, all conversations of all elected officials. When they take the oath of office they can be outfitted with a recording device that streams all conversations instantly to a server. It would also be made to interface with cell phones and office phones so both sides of the conversation can be recorded.

I wonder if McCain thinks that is something we just have to accept...

If everyone would just follow Janet's advice, the government wouldn't need to monitor us so extensively, saving taxpayers money.

But Politicians talk in double speak that hides their true intentions, as well as having Privacy for themselves to plot the murder of innocents, such as Ukraine and Syria. The goal has to be to turn us all into criminals, while leaving the real criminals running the show.
