The Republican National Committee wants to take more control over how the party picks a White House nominee.

The RNC was to meet Wednesday in Memphis, Tennessee, to choose members who will effectively set the calendar for 2016's long list of potential presidential contenders. If the party's chairman, Reince Priebus gets his way, the GOP will pick its nominee more quickly than during past contests and have fewer debates in which candidates could criticize each other.

As much as I don't like the title or even the word "control," this might actually help Rand because he already has a base that isn't swayed by what others say. I like the idea of nominee Paul having longer to educate the country on liberty and why we've got to turn around and run toward it in 2016.

I think a person is delusional if they think Rand has a chance in hell at getting the nomination. No F'n way that will be allowed. Not a chance.

Both parties have only one thing in mind. More power, less liberty, by any means necessary. We will have to literally wage war on the GOP if we want Rand to have a shot.

That's what many said about him becoming senator...

The party of Stupid at it again. They think picking a hispanic or someone who speaks spanish can get them a win. Now they think if there are less debates, they have a better chance? Idiots.

There already was a war going on, but Rand chose to end it.

I agree and wasn't suggesting the GOP was our ally. They don't want Rand to win and I'm sure they think this will somehow hurt his chances. I was simply saying that I thought it might backfire on them.

Sure, if he manages to overcome Rubio, Christie, possibly Jeb Bush, Peter King and whether the tide turns in his favor come primary time. If Tillis winning the primary is an indication of anything, it's clear that there's still major resistance to the ideals our side tries to spread. Granted, that's not the only issue, but it's something.

What they won't say is that all these proposed plans hinge on whether or not Hillary is going to run. If the Democrats have a competitive primary, it is definitely bad for GOP to have a "presumptive nominee" in May or June. People were tired of hearing about McCain before they even had the convention, and they even suspended the campaign for a while so he could go back to the Senate and "fix the economy".

I think it's a good idea to get the primary over with more quickly, but I don't think that limiting debates is a good thing.

They just need to know which delegates mics to turn off in advance of the convention.

It depends on how much Rand Paul can raise and spend in the early states of IA, NH, NV and SC. If he can raise 20 million and spends it in those states, winning all of them, he can likely won the nomination. With a short primary season, though states, and perhaps especially NH and SC, can really matter. Rand has already shown that he can get strong establishment support in ME.

Anyway, it's too early to give up. Hopefully Rand is know throwing money at the early states, building up his reputation.

Their desire to completely control the debates, and thus the narratives, is frightening.

Damn, I wish I would have saved Reince's solicitation for $ and sent it back with a note instead of just tossing it ... I'm sure there will be a next time.

If nothing changes -- and at 2 1/2 years out, all kinds of things can change -- we're probably looking at a Bush/Paul race. If that's the case, it's my considered opinion that Paul's odds are even longer than those his dad faced. The party establishment has had two election cycles to shore up its weak spots against insurgency from the Pauls' direction. State and local party organizations will be locked down tight, the big checkbooks will come out for Bush and the GOP establishment would rather throw the election (if it's not already a lost cause regardless of candidate) than put a loose cannon on the Oval Deck.

I got that too which I read as an either donate or hit the road Jack letter. I thought it had a very unconciliatory tone. I tossed it too.
