Illegal aliens causing human rights crisis in North Carolina

Last month, local police and federal law enforcement agents raided a home in a Winston-Salem neighborhood and discovered a naked woman lying on a mattress, the woman was in the country illegally and had been forced into prostitution by a group of human traffickers operating throughout the state.

During a three-day period, the woman had been forced to have sex with 19 customers, according to court documents.

The raid was the result of an investigation into a human smuggling ring which placed young women and underage girls in the country illegally, into brothels across North Carolina. So far, 40 arrests have been made.

Many of those taken into custody are known criminals with prior convictions for human trafficking, such as Alonso-Hernandez, 32, who pleaded guilty to recruiting, harboring, and transporting a woman to work as a prostitute in 2011.

Also arrested, was Mauro Aparicio-Hernandez, 51, who once pleaded guilty to the importation of an alien for an immoral purposes.

Both received very short prison terms and remained in the country.

How do these predators find their victims?

The Winston-Salem Journal reported:

Brock Nicholson, a special agent in charge with ICE in Atlanta, said that the prostitution ring preyed on vulnerable women from Mexico and Central America.

"Some were enticed," Nicholson said. "They were smuggled into the United States and went right into prostitution. They have been victims for years. These women and girls are someone’s daughters, someone’s children. They are being raped as children and forced into prostitution."
In addition to forcing girls into prostitution, illegal aliens have been preying on North Carolina's children in massive numbers. During the month of March, illegal aliens racked up more than 250 child molestation charges across the state. A month earlier, more than 150 such charges were recorded in the Tarheel state.

A very cursory search turned up the following arrests in the last several days:

-On April 19, police in Raleigh arrested Juan Carlos-Uribe Herrera, 46, and charged him with two counts of first-degree sexual offense. He reportedly forced a child under the age of 13 into performing several sex acts.

The examiner's title is misleading. Illegal aliens aren't causing a human rights crisis in North Carolina, the United States' immigration system is. As the article itself points out the women in question were being mislead by the human traffickers. If the United States had an viable method for low-skilled migrants to enter the United States the women in question could have come into the country legally and avoided being abused.

What this article fails to make note of is the need for reform with U visas. U visas exist precisely to help women in these situations, but it is capped. Why in the world should humanitarian visas be capped? What is the logic here? "I am sorry, you were pushed into being a sex slave but since you were the Nth person to apply you aren't eligible for aid." The way that U visa applications are handled also make it uncertain whether someone will get it or be denied. Even if you aren't against open borders, or are against increased migration, surely we can all agree that humanitarian visas should function to actually provide humanitarian aid in a transparent and efficient manner?

And I really wish I didn't have to point this out, but studies on the issue have consistently shown that migrants have lower crime rates than US natives.
