A chase in South Dallas led to a standoff that ended with Dallas police fatally shooting an armed man outside of the Southwest Center Mall Monday afternoon.

Dallas police fatally shot the man after he exited his vehicle and began waving around a gun in the mall parking lot, police said.

The man's girlfriend, who had been brought to the scene by police, began screaming when the gunfire erupted.

About an hour before, at about 1:20 p.m., officers reported smelling marijuana coming from a red, 4-door Ford sedan. When they approached, a woman, later identified as the driver's girlfriend, got out of the car. The man behind the wheel drove at the officers, police said.

The officers gave chase as the man led them through an area of South Dallas that included Camp Wisdom Road, Cockrell Hill Road, U.S. Highway 67 and Interstate 20.

Well into the chase the driver stopped the sedan along a Frontage Road of southbound U.S. 67, adjacent to the mall. Dallas police, with guns drawn, ordered the driver out of the vehicle while attempting to inch closer behind the cover of more than a half-dozen police cars.

After several minutes, the man, who still refused to exit the vehicle, pulled away from the scene and continued at a slow speed down the service road before he stopped again for a few moments.

About a minute later, the driver then quickly pulled into the Southwest Center Mall parking lot before coming to a stop again on the northeast side of the mall. Police stopped all traffic in that general area, surrounded the driver and, believing the man to be armed and dangerous, asked all businesses in the immediate vicinity to shelter in place.

Now surrounded, the driver briefly stepped out of the vehicle and put a gun to his head before getting back inside the car and shutting the door.

Dallas SWAT and nearly two dozen police cars could be seen both at the scene and cordoning off nearby parking areas around the mall. At about 2 p.m., Dallas SWAT asked for a temporary flight restriction over the mall; Chopper 5 complied and moved back to a distance of two miles from the scene.

A short time later, Dallas SWAT armed personnel carriers pulled into the parking lot. A few moments later, at about 2:15 p.m., the man got out of the car and was then seen slumping over and falling to the pavement.

Dallas officers, accompanied by an armored SWAT vehicle and an ambulance, then slowly surrounded the man and his car.

Initially it was unclear if the man shot himself or if he was shot by police. The Dallas police later tweeted that they were investigating the incident as an officer-involved shooting and that the driver was deceased.

The incident remains under investigation. Further details surrounding the ending of the standoff are expected to be released by the Dallas Police Department. Check back and refresh this page for the latest update.

Just Google/Bing/D2G/etc: 'Chase Standoff Ends Fatal Shooting' 100s of hits over the past few months. The odds of being killed by America's Mafioso Law "HITMEN" are far greater than the 10:1 odds compared to Terrorists. Betcha it's up to 12 or 13 to 1 now.

Fuckin Stalin, Pinochet, Francisco Franco, Mussolini, Mao... would be elated to use such vast militarized-weaponized American government killing the citizens under a POLICE STATE. Don't count on the Fascist-Corporate Infotainment Media to expose government, the same government that gives them billions in tax-writeoffs courtesy of the poor and middle classes.

Once again making the point that there's absolutely no reason to subject ones self to being in the proximity of drug warriors...

It's to the point that folks who want to get high might want to think about shooting first when they see a cop just so they'll have a fighting chance...

Around 5am Easter morning some motorist from Cali lost his life to a female DPS trooper here in Lubbock during a traffic stop . Supposedly the motorist and two passengers failed to present ID, so she tried to arrest the driver, and she claims that he resisted arrest, so she just had to kill him. Uh huh. I'd have to see the dash cam to believe it. Texas state troopers are the same "professional" law enforcement officers who can turn a stop for littering into a road-side rape.
