An NYPD cop is stuck in India after being arrested for accidentally bringing three bullets into the country, officials said Friday.

Officer Manny Encarnacion was taken into custody on March 10 after security at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport found the bullets in his checked baggage, police sources said.

“I’m troubled by it,” Mayor de Blasio said Friday of the arrest. “We want to make sure we're providing support for him — and make sure he’s not being treated unfairly.”

In December, the controversial arrest and strip search of New Delhi’s then-deputy consul-general Devyani Khobragade in Manhattan for allegedly paying her nanny as little as $3 an hour caused an international firestorm.

The incident fueled tensions during Encarnacion’s arrest.

“The police official who questioned [Encarnacion] said, ‘Oh New York City police. You’re the guys who like to strip-search our diplomats,’” said a source familiar with the incident.

Rep. Peter King accused India of seeking payback by arresting the cop.

How much leniency would Officer Encarnacion have shown to an out-of-stater who accidentally brought an illegal gun into New York City?

Would it be okay to send the rest of the NYPD over there?

He should be hung. How dare he break the rules like that. I know it's trivial but it's the law and it's written on paper. I know the police there are just "following orders" but it's understandable right, Mr. Piggy?

I liked the story a lot more before I found out it was a retaliatory action for NY not respecting India's right to name untouchable rulers.

When I think of people going to India, I think of the people I know who went, who are mostly new-agey people on a Yoga retreat. This was the image I had in my head

Not New York, but still...

In a surprising twist at the end of a long trial, a District of Columbia judge found Mark Witaschek guilty of “attempted possession of unlawful ammunition” for antique replica muzzleloader bullets.
Judge Robert Morin sentenced Mr. Witaschek to time served, a $50 fine and required him to enroll with the Metropolitan Police Department’s firearm offenders’ registry within 48 hours.

When are de Blasio and King gonna weigh in on this little matter over 2 bullets?

Gregory D. Dean Jr of upstate New York was arrested by state troopers on May 12 around 9:45 p.m. on Route 22 after a traffic stop for a busted light bulb. During the stop the troopers saw Dean’s licensed .40 caliber handgun lying on the front seat and discovered the magazine contained 9 bullets, 2 more than the new New York state gun laws allow.

he broke the law and he needs to face the consequences.

If that results in a strip search and having his anal cavity peered open to search for drugs then it's justified because he shouldn't have broken the law in the first place.

That's what boobus is going to say right? right??

I wonder if India will bill him for the examination, like they do in New Mexico.

With the deadline set to take effect, the head of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence — one of the SAFE Act’s biggest proponents — said gun owners should be expected to follow the law.

“They can make all the noise they want, but the law is the law,” said Leah Gunn Barrett, the group’s executive director. “The New York SAFE Act was passed by a bipartisan legislature, signed by Gov. Cuomo well over a year ago. It’s being implemented, and people are expected to comply with the law.”
