Hi all. Hope everyone is doing well. I had a question and figured this site may be the best spot to post it first. I have a 2008 Ron Paul $20 coin I bought back in 2007 while in high school. Also a $10 coin. I was wondering if anyone one here was interested in buying them possibly. I am traveling to Asia this summer and am trying to raise money for my backpacking trip, but more specifically some time on a Elephant/other animal sanctuary in Thailand. I hate to let this coin go as its a strong reminder of when I became liberty minded. But funds must be raised. If you'd like to learn more about the place I hope to spend the funds on this is a link I made just now to try to raise money from family/friends. Thanks to all, and any questions feel free to ask regarding to coins or anything. I know they are not the easiest to come by anymore and hoped someone may have more use of them then me. I can also get better quality pictures. The coins do have some flaws from how they were stored I'd imagine. Not sure if that can be cleaned.

The RP coin is a "pre ban" NORFED coin, very, very hard to find anymore.
I have five and might be willing to part with two or three if the price was right.

Why did they stamp a price.

"Liberty Dollars".

That was how the FedCoats were able to shut NORFED down, claiming they were "counterfeiting".
My coins arrived one week before the FedCoat raid.

One of the main issues that arose with the Treasury's coins was that they were stamped a price (arithmetically incorrect at that [a quarter ounce coin not being stamped a quarter of the price that the ounce coin was stamped]).
For instance, that one ounce silver coin was once worth upwards of 36-37 dollars. The half ounce worth upwards of 18-19. They are stamped $20 and $10 respectively. They should not be. The value of silver rises and falls. Trying to dictate what level it should remain, or what its value should be is a task even the government could not accomplish.

No wonder they shut these guys down, using the mark of the beast without permission.

Just some heads up, the Rapescans at the Bangkok airport are optional. Just go to the line next to it that doesn't have a Rapescan. Disregard the sign before the Rapescan that says "THIS IS NOT AN X-RAY, IT WILL NOT HURT YOU." I had a good laugh about that bold-faced lie when I read it.
Also, if you need to use internet access at the airport you'll need to get a wifi password from an information desk. One of the desks takes your passport and scans it. The other one does not, it just asks you to write your name and passport number on a piece of clipboarded paper, so look for the desk with the clipboard. Let's just say Bill Clinton's been to Bangkok with 69696969 as his passport number a couple of times.
You might also want to use a VPN or SSH tunnel when you're connecting in the airport, as they openly admit to recording all your web traffic. Thankfully the SSH ports aren't blocked.
I'm making an assumption here based on personal experiences and those of everyone else I know, but you probably aren't going to want to go back after the summer ends. Also just to let you know, you don't have to be 70 and retired to live there, despite what the demographics of the rest of the resident expat population would indicate. You can live there today if that's what you want, it can be done. Find online income, or teach English if you've got the patience for that. Or just use my method and find a old farang woman at the beach and tell her you'll go home with her for $20. Either way, Best of luck.
If you go further East past Thailand into bandit country, send me a PM, I'll make sure you have a good time.

Oh , yeah , whatever you do , never clean a coin . Not silver , gold ,copper etc .It invariably leaves scratches and actually detracts from the value as a collectible .Not spot value though .

Why did they stamp a price.
At the beginning of the California gold rush , jewelers , assayers , etc began to mint coins as there was a shortage.Paper money was illegal in California. These coins were mostly in very small denominations , 1/4 , 1/2 dollars were most of them. These , along with gold dust were traded regularly for goods & services. If I recall , in the 1860's the Govt passed a law against this and actually began some enforcement by the early 1880's . The California gold coins struck after the beginning of enforcement are undated ,or back dated ,prior to the law. So , yeah , if I begin to mint money , I will make it a standard metal & measurement and leave off the denomination , just as though those today do when minting silver 1 ounce rounds
