Boise, Idaho (CBS SEATTLE) – An Idaho state trooper arrested and fully searched a 70-year-old Washington man’s vehicle solely because he had a Colorado license plate – a state where marijuana is legal – a federal “license plate profiling” lawsuit alleges.

Darien Roseen was driving along I-84 between his second home in Colorado and Washington state on Jan. 25 when Idaho State Trooper Justin Klitch “immediately” pulled out from the Interstate median and began “rapidly accelerating” to catch up to Roseen, according to the complaint in a Courthouse News Service report. Exiting at a designated rest area, Roseen says he became “uncomfortable” that Klitch had followed him though he had not “done anything wrong.”

After pulling Roseen over, Klitch reportedly failed to explain why he made the stop, although he later said he made the stop because Roseen failed to use his signal when pulling off on the exit, and because he bumped the curb. Klitch rejected Roseen’s reason for pulling into the rest area, telling him, “You didn’t have to go to the bathroom before you saw me … I’m telling you, you pulled in here to avoid me.”

The complaint states that Klitch asked Roseen why his eyes “appeared glassy,” while failing to ask him for his proof of insurance, registration, or returning to his vehicle to verify Roseen’s license. He then accused Roseen of “having something in his vehicle that he should not have.”

Apparently now if you have a Colorado License Plate, you MUST be a Pot Smoker!

Is it possible that there are just too many cops?

If police forces were cut by 50% nationwide, maybe it would force them to focus on real crime?

Or 100%.

Then maybe it would force them to focus on getting real jobs.

50% would be a welcomed cause, though. Hell, if we could cut them 10% I'd be rather pleasantly amazed.

Do cops exist?
Then there are too many.

Naa, they want the "easy" targets that gives them the most recognition and overtime.

Perhaps a better solution would be to nationally legalize pot? Eliminate the things that their jobs require them to focus on would make them probably foucs on speeders more than pot smokers, but again, same problem, they dont go after real crime. Next step, lay off all the fucking traffic tickets?

I suspect one would find a 50% decrease in crime if they cut police forces by 50% nationwide.

No cops will still focus on activities that bring the department revenue.

Exactly. The easy targets - you and I - allow them to demonstrate to the public that there's a real problem with crime, because look at how many arrests there were!

Plus they acclimate us to the completely bogus idea - still actively hucked on this very site - that there would be pandemonium if the cops didn't exist. You people can't control yourselves! You need someone to do it for you!

Moreover, the real criminals are an important part of the equation that cops aren't going to give up willingly. Every government agency works in the exact reverse of how market entities work.
Market entities get rewarded for success and punished for failure.
But when a government agency succeeds, it gets cut - and when it fails, it gets more money.
Hardened criminals are the failure measure of the cops. As long as they exist, cops get to winge about how tough it is and how much more money they need.
And tanks. Tanks will change things. It's totally not like the last eight times they asked for more money.

Well, nationally legalizing pot would be like nationally legalizing prostitution - it's not going to get rid of state laws.
But again, you hit the nail on the head by talking about "real crime".
Right now, a crime is defined as an infraction against the state. The state is the chief injured party.
As a society, we have no concept of a crime requiring a victim. Even if the infraction is murder, theft, or arson, the state doesn't care about the victim. All the state cares about is that its rules were broken.
And you only need to look at the behavior of the state when disciplining people breaking its rules.
There is no regard for the victims at all. They're left without their property, without their loved one, and with a responsibility to shoulder the bill for keeping their victimizer locked in a rape dungeon.

And as far as the cops? See sig line.

Don't forget "safely"!

Officer safety is paramount while the fine heroes in law enforcement collect revenue....
