Arrest Warrant Issued for Greene County Justice of the Peace

PARAGOULD, AR, (News release) – Scott Ellington, Prosecuting Attorney for the Second Judicial District, announced today (Friday) that Greene County Justice of the Peace Ronnie Wood will face felony battery charges from a physical altercation in January in which he allegedly struck County Judge Jerry Shipman.

Clay County Deputy Prosecutor Mike Trail of Rector reviewed the case file and approved the second-degree battery warrant for Wood’s arrest, issued by Circuit Judge Ralph Wilson, Jr of Osceola. The charge escalated to felony level due to Shipman’s age, Ellington said.

Ellington assigned the case out of county to Trail to avoid conflicts of interest by the Greene County Deputy Prosecutor’s Office.

At Ellington’s request, Arkansas State Police Special Agent Wendall Jines began an investigation after Shipman reported he was struck by Wood at the Phillips Auction Barn on Greene 721 Road near the Finch community. Officials were meeting there to discuss road improvements in the area, the prosecutor said.
